An Unexpected Disappointing Tragedy

A guided missile shoots down a Malaysian jetliner carrying over 200 people including almost 2 dozen Americans, is apparently shot down over a proxy war zone.

The President observes the “tragedy” briefly, and then goes back on script to demand Republicans build more airports.

It’s tiresome to keep repeating “if it’d been any Republican, can you imagine how different the media response would be”.  But it’s still true.

  1. As has been said by wiser people than me, we need a Republican in the White House so that the media will do their fucking job.

  2. over on his blog penigma whinges with a hint of pathos:
“I hope the President decides to meet out justice for the guilty. “

  3. “I hope the President decides to meet out justice for the guilty. “

    His spelling hasn’t improved, apparently.

  4. I would never take the time to read anything at Penigma’s blog, not just because the logic and common sense over there is staggeringly absent, but also because they don’t know the difference between “meet” and “mete.”

  5. “they don’t know the difference between “meet” and “mete.””
Penigma lacks a neighbor who is CEO of a Dictionary Company. Tough to get in that neighborhood though what with all the Fed Governors, Bar Association Presidents, Health Insurance Company Senior Managers, and Medical School Professors that live there just so Pen can have Appeal to Authority Power over us wing-nuts.

  6. I would even quibble over whether it was unexpected. On one side, you have at least one airline that thinks nothing of flying through a war zone, and on the other, you’ve got Russian-advised and perhaps equipped rebels shooting at anything that flies.

So it was about as unexpected as finding your Camaro wrapped around a tree after giving your teenage son a bottle of whiskey and the car keys, really. Of course, if Dear Leader concedes that it was a matter of when, not if, then he’s got to admit his policies were and are an abject failure.

  7. It wasn’t until I listened to Jason Lewis on the way home from work, that I learned this is the 4th plane shot down in the last week or so. I’ll admit to not having been much of a media consumer the last month or so, but I at least give a cursory glance to FOXNews and Hot Air a couple times a day at work.

I didn’t see anything about planes coming down until this last one.

  8. Seflores:
I’ve always preferred the term: Webdings which you know as a “TrueType dingbat font”. The pejorative; “wing–nuts”, is too confrontational in my opinion.

MBerg show update this post as it is rife with incorrect information. There were 298 people that boarded the plane and only one American is confirmed dead. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/mh17-passengers-included-american-and-former-indiana-university-athlete/2014/07/18/6e508946-0e87-11e4-b8e5-d0de80767fc2_story.html

    STiD reports, you decide.

  9. MBerg show update this post as it is rife with incorrect information.

    I are type English?

Merg has no obligation to update a blog post, because it’s HIS blog.

  10. Only one American is dead, so no big deal, eh Emery? The fact Russian anti-aircraft missiles are shooting down passenger liners traveling scheduled air corridors at 30,000 feet is only important if The Right People are aboard.

Reminds me of Huck Finn telling Aunt Sally about the steamship explosion: “Anybody hurt? No’m. Killed a nigger. Well it’s lucky, because sometimes people do get hurt.”

    .

  11. It is odd that they permitted the plane to fly over a “hot” area.
I’ve heard that several military planes have been downed over Ukraine in the past few weeks. What would you think if you were a passenger on a commercial jet, and you looked out your window and saw a missile take down a military plane?
    Weird.

  12. Mr. Doakes: There are factual inaccuracies in MBerg’s post.

PM: Commercial airlines continue to fly over Afghanistan. While the Bosnian war was raging, airlines flew over their airspace as well.

  13. “rife with incorrect information”

That’s what I get for trusting the mainstream media.

  14. “There are factual inaccuracies in MBerg’s post”

    It happens.

Please confirm with a snapshots of the garments you’ve rent when caught being inaccurate, so as to advise me on future course of action.

  15. Jeebus, Emery, how do you know the WaPo is correct and that its definition of ‘American’ is correct?
What about passengers with American H1-B’S? Permanent residents? Non-American spouses of Americans who live in the U.S.?

Who is and who is not an American seems to be the subject of much debate, these days.

  16. “PM, wasn’t Jeebus the only begotten son of Gosh?”
But both jeebus and gosh are gods, not God.

I believe that early reports had many more than a single American on the plane. They haven’t collected the bodies, yet.
