It’s Another Berg’s Seventh Law Post!

By Mitch Berg

A shooter friend of mine posted this on Facebook:

LOGICAL GUN CONTROL
In 1863 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States .

In 1881 a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States who later died from the wound.

In 1963 a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States .

In 1975 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States .

In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan.

In 1984 James Huberty a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.

In 1986 Patrick Sherril a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990 James Pough a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office

In 1991 George Hennard a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 23 people in a Luby’s cafeteria

In 1995 James Daniel Simpson a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory

In 1999 Larry Asbrook a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 8 people at a church service.

In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush President of the United States

In 2003 Douglas Williams a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32  people in Virginia Tech.

In 2009 a registered Democrat named Nidal Malik Hasan shot and killed 13 and injured 32 at Ft. Hood, Texas

In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.

In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis

In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people in a school.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not.
Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns.

SOLUTION: It should simply be illegal for Democrats to own guns.

I don’t entirely endorse the data – I’m  not sure we can ascribe politics to dementees like Ho, Loughner or Holmes.  Or alleged jihadis like Hassan, for that matter; by that logic, the 9/11 hijackers were Democrats, too.

And I’m extremely leery about junk psychology “studies” that ascribe defects or pathologies to other peoples’ politics – especially politics I disagree with – it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that Democrats are very frequently much angrier than the rest of us; the farther left they are, the more out there they seem.

So may be the conclusion is “keep guns out of the hands of rabid statists”.

I can live with that.

We can’t forget to mention one of the most blatant examples of a registered Democrat Professor, Amy Bishop, that shot and killed three of her fellow registered Democrats at the University of Alabama for denying her tenure! Further, years earlier, when she was in high school, she was suspected of killing her brother with a shotgun, then with the help of her mother’s testimony, claimed it was an accident. Based on their investigation, the police weren’t buying it, but she got away with it. She was obviously mentally challenged, but she didn’t get help and killed again.

  2. J. Ewing Says:

How about we just agree with the gun-grabbers that we shouldn’t allow the mentally ill to have guns? I mean, it actually makes sense, especially if you define being a liberal or a Democrat as a mental illness.

  3. Terry Says:

The Oswald denial is yet another sign that our liberal friends are insane.
Oswald called himself a marxist, he defected to the USSR and lived there for several years, he married a Russian woman in the USSR, he tried to defect to Cuba after returning to the US from the Soviet Union, he read communist literature (in Russian!), and in March of ’63, he tried to assiasinate a US general who was a notorious Bircher.
Yet the liberal left believes that Oswald was a right wing stooge.

The problem with this list is it takes people with left leanings and calls them Democrats. It’s the same idea of taking someone who once attended a Tea Party rally and calling them a right wing nut job. You just can’t put people in neat little boxes.

As a perfect for instance, Terry mentions Oswald. In the early 1960’s, Oswald would have been far to the left of the Democrat party. Lumping him in with the Dems just isn’t accurate.

  5. Mitch Berg Says:

    Dave,

I agree. I’m not endorsing this piece. Just nodding and getting a chuckle.

  6. Terry Says:

To be fair, the piece doesn’t call Oswald a democrat. Revolutionaries tend not to favor gun control. Garfield’s assassin was a left-wing anarchist . . .

  7. PJKelly Says:

    Keep those Democrats gruntled.

  8. Seflores Says:

So is anyone else for modifying the phrase “going Postal” to “going Democrat”?

  9. Joe Says:

I think the terms “democrat” and “republican” no longer have a stable, universally held definition. The democrats I was raised by, with, and around hardly meet the currently held definitions nor held the currently held beliefs of that party.

However, the big picture Mr. Berg paints of the issue; who’s doing all the killing?, is valid. Whoever they are, they tend not to be conservatives.

The article in the post is reminiscent of many I read as a kid which showed all kinds of coincidental and anecdotal connections between JFK and Abraham Lincoln.

I suppose a rabid liberal anti-gunner might use this as further proof of a need for more gun control; “Things have gotten so out of hand that even we cannot be restrained by them.”

This reminds me of one of the graphics that came out in the aftermath of Bush’s defeat of Al Gore; somebody calculated that the murder rate in counties that voted for Bush was one sixth of the rate of counties that voted for Gore.

We can quibble over whether liberalism is equivalent to support for the Democrats–and it’s worth noting that the Communists stopped running Presidential candidates when Michael Dukakis was nominated, as he was close enough–but the data demonstrate pretty clearly that liberalism is correlated with violence.

Come to think of it, if I had to defend Comrade Obama’s policies, I’d be prone to violence, too.

…but the data demonstrate pretty clearly that liberalism is correlated with violence.

    Yes, yes it is.

Terry, today’s Democrats would probably find a 1963 communist to be a far right nut job.

Mitch and all the readers. I just saw this post now. Did any of you notice the horrible typo at the beginning.

Lincoln was killed in 1865 not 1863.

It’s one thing to do a typo on a word, but lets not get history wrong.

  14. Dog Gone Says:

The problem with this list is it is factually inaccurate from beginning to end.

If you want to look at the political affiliations, and if you want to connect them to political action, please do so — but these don’t work in that context.

I would point out that for example, Adam Lanza was emulating right winger Anders Breivik when he committed the Sandy Hook shootings. The man who shot up the Sikh temple in Wisconsin a year ago was a right wing extremist /neo-Nazi. Jared Loughner had been visiting and obsessively following extremist right wing web sites and writing letters to Gabby Giffords office promoting those strange ideas about currency and other topics for over a year before he shot her and so many others, representing his most recent and motivating political orientation. Many of those who have been arrested for trying to emulate the Aurora Colorado shooting have had right wing ties. The shooter of Dr Tiller was a right wing extremist anti-abortion nut. And of course, the classic right wing perfect example of violence is Timothy McVeigh and his colleagues. Let us not forget the most recent example, extreme right winger Adam Kokesh who was just arrested for illegal gun and drug possession, after threatening behavior in DC. Let’s also not forget the old goat down in ‘bama, Jimmy Lee Dykes, who kidnapped a little boy off a school bus, shot the bus driver – one of his few friends in the world – and then hid out in his right wing nut bunker before being blown away in a firefight with law enforcement. Bunkers and large supplies of ammo, assault rifles, and right wing nut screeds seem to be pretty common. That was just one example. Let’s not forget the right wing nut who wants to shoot Hillary Clinton in her lady bits. The list of right wing nut radio hosts advocating violence is pretty long.

Any linking of a southerner as a Democrat, in the instance of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and Lincoln as a Republican is hypocritical by a modern Republican. The GOP has become since Goldwater the party of racists and white supremacists — or don’t you follow your own party’s legislation, or presentations like those as CPAC? The GOP is no longer the party of which Lincoln was an early founding member; what they are now would be repugnant to him, based on everything he wrote and spoke after becoming a Republican.

The NRA convention this year, with asshats like Nugent, are nothing but one long loud right wing advocacy for gun violence. The enormity of right wing domestic terrorism is indisputable and well documented. There is no equivalent number of left-wing terrorists.

This is pure crap of the worst kind, and it should be noted that gun ownership, in terms of people is on the decline. It is strongly declining and has been for decades among Democrats; it is declining much more slowly on the right, with far fewer people on the extreme right owning an increasing number of guns.

Why? Because the right wing extremists are a bunch of lunatics who live for conspiracy theories and who apparently like to be scared — the notion they are a target when the are not apparently makes them feel important.

Try again, this time with verified facts for a change. Once again, you’ve got nothing, except a stinking pile of intellectual dishonesty.
