By Way Of Noting…

By Mitch Berg

…that the staff of The Onion won’t be missing their target of the past eight years, George W. Bush, nosirreebob…:

Oh, God, no,” says feature editor Joe Garden. “It’s been a nightmare trying to figure out what to do with him [in the paper].” From the Onion’s standpoint, Barack Obama’s nomination and his rock-star celebrity were good news, “simply because he has people interested in politics, which lets us satirize something people care about,” says Garden.

…I have been meaning to ask for quite a while – isn’t it time to start satirizing The Onion

Is it just me, or have they been phoning it in for the past year or two?

I’d tell you my answer, but I’d have to show you an annoying ad first, clutter up your homepage, attempt to get the embedded video to work (but get the ad running first), and hope that Jean Teasdale’s article is funny only to 13 people — five of which I see daily.

In other news our Mad Libs is coming out soon, so you can make up stories about single, loser 30-something males still clinging to their college lifestyle.

That being said, the Onion’s video side has been on a roll recently with the YouTube and Obama fans stories.

David beat me to it, but he’s right. The videos they’ve been doing lately have been pretty top-notch. The piece on Obama fans was hilarious.

I think this is the one:

    That’s the one, Troy.

That’s pretty funny, Trojan Man. Kinda like 1/2 Hour News Hour if it had been funny. Here’s a good Onion video:

As much as I like the Onion, I’ve not been compelled to read it regularly for about three years or more.

The Iron Man video piece was hillarious, and the recent text story on Donald Fagen talking about Steely Dan was classic Onion.
