Nature Abhors A Vacuum

Joe Doakes from Como Park writes:

The Gosnell trial is in its 5th week but until six days ago, the Star Trib’s policy on the case was:

[crickets]

What changed was this column by USA Today columnist Kirsten Powers, published April 11th .  Shameful, Star Trib.  Just pathetic.

  1. The media are feeling pressure from the right to provide more coverage of this trial than most news professionals think warranted, on the specious — actually, ludicrous — premise that Gosnell’s charnel house of a late- term abortion clinic is somehow emblematic of all abortion- service providers, specifically Planned Parenthood.

The politics of this trial are the aspect that deserves more coverage.

  2. You know the saying, they don’t report on the 1,000’s of trains that don’t derail; they report on the one that does. This style of news judgement would lead one to believe that all abortion clinics are run in the manner of Gosnell’s Abattoir. Glad to see our Democrat Dominated Media Culture has found one aspect of, er, life they have no interest in investigating: How Gosnell could have continued to operate in conditions that would have gotten a butcher shop shut down.

  3. Gosnell’s charnel house IS emblematic of all abortion providers. The very fine distinction relied upon to distinguish them – chopped up a living baby within in the womb rather than outside it – may be sufficient to avoid a murder charge but cannot mitigage the repugnance that civilized humans should feel.

  4. OK, Emery, if Gosnell’s clinic is not a picture of the way many clinics, including those in the PP orbit, operate, ‘splain to me why PP fights any attempt to regulate clinics so hard. Why didn’t they raise Hell as people started to raise questions about Gosnell?

    Sorry, their attitude speaks volumes.

  5. Even one Planned Parenthood Abattoir is too many. Oh looky here, right on schedule:

“Delaware Planned Parenthood halts abortions while under investigation”

Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis both quit their jobs as nurses at the facility…“I couldn’t tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was,” Ms. Mitchell-Werbrich said.

He didn’t wear gloves. He didn’t believe he needed to wear them,” she added about a particular doctor. “Planned Parenthood needs to close its doors, it’s needs to be cleaned up, the staff needs to be trained.”

Both of the women said they quit in order to protect their medical licenses.

Ms. Vasikonis told Action News she was appalled by the meat-market like abortion procedures.

“They were using instruments on patients that were not sterile,” she said. “They could be at risk of getting hepatitis, even AIDS.”

Gosnell didn’t operate in a vacuum. Planned Parenthood knew exactly what was going on in his “women’s health clinic”. We know that because several of the women testified PP had sent them there because their babies were older than the 24 months PA law allows them to be butchered to.

Gosnell was a Planned Parenthood independant contractor.

  6. Gosnell’s crimes are horrendous, shocking and – hopefully – rare. Pro-abortion citizens and journalists are right to be concerned that too much attention on this case could lead to loud calls for a “serious national discussion” about late term abortions. You could have prominent politicians shepherding the surviving mothers and staff from Gosnell’s abattoir around to Congressional hearings and photo ops to press for common-sense restrictions and laws to close the “Abortitarium Loophole” and limit the number of procedures that can be performed in one day to, for example, no more than seven. You’d have people condemning the choke hold the NARAL and Planned Parenthood have on legislators and calls for universal background checks on abortion providers and patients and de facto registration of all abortions carried out, including the names of the doctors, the mothers and their home addresses.

Of course, I’m exaggerating. No one would really want to use a handful of shocking instances to demagogue against a fundamental right, would they?

  7. And speaking of speciousness Emery, despite the claims of leftist, pro-butchery advocates that lack of funding created an opportunity for Gosnell, his “clients” somehow managed to come up with thousands to pay him. The guy made millions.

It isn’t a lack of money, it’s a lack of morality and human decency.

  8. Emery, in Illinois legislature, twice BH Obama voted against a law that required medical be given to babies who survive abortions.

NY Gov Cuomo and other pro-abortion Democrats have said abortion clinics don’t need inspections nor have medical staff on site.

  9. Did you guys see that abortionist who spoke against Gosnell’s methods? As part of his testimony, he said he has performed an estimated 40,000 abortions.

So what was that about abortion being safe, legal and rare?

  10. 40,000 deaths on his hands.

    40,000.

Can someone tell me how someone could do that and not be irreparably and seriously mentally damaged, unless he was thusly damaged before he hoiked out his first baby with a hook.

How many people *did* Dr. Mengele butcher, anyway?

  11. swiftee, any links to your anecdotal figures?

I detect the faint smell of a “swiftee fart”. Which is no doubt a result of your ass-less chaps. It’s a bit like a cushion-creeper. Detecting the strength of a real fart is easy. If the perpetrator is offended it’s bad, if dogs leave the room it’s very bad, and if children start crying then there is danger about. But farts resulting from pure bullshit are often difficult to measure.

It’s really no surprise that you want to control what goes on in other peoples’ lives while misdirecting the public by claiming that you want government out of our lives.

  12. I just checked, Emery; your nose isn’t buried in my ass…I’m guessing what you’re smelling is a Mongrel Cur queef since you’re regurgitating her brainless papspew.

Pull your head out for a second and check your bearings.

  13. Fwiw, the 40,000 figure was self-reported by another abortionist who was testifying againt Gosnell’s actions, and was referring to himself, not Gosnell. Assuming I had the stomach and consciience to be tin that business in the first place, I don’t think I would want to keep track of the number. Whether 40 or 40,000, I don’t know how that doesn’t haunt you, regardless of your faith or worldview.

  14. NW, I’m betting reprobates of Emery & Cur’s ilk would argue that 40,000 butcheries make one well qualified and worthy of high praise.

Also, alluding to my earlier question, one cannot help but take notice of the similarity between the rhetoric of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, and the explainations of Josef Mengele for his “work”.

I’m guessing Ms. Sanger thought ol’ Jo was quite the practitioner.

  15. swiftee you ass-bandit, can’t you even supply a simple link to your anecdotal figures?

  16. Em, slow down and re-read the comment string. Chuck originally posted the comment, citing another abortion provider testifying against Gosnell who self-reported he (the witness) had performed 40,000 abortions. This was testimony in the trial, and a quick Google-search turns up numerous references to this doctor’s testimony, including stories from ABC, CBS and this link from US News: http://www.usnews.com/news/newsgram/articles/2013/04/16/abortion-doctor-kermit-gosnells-murder-trial-dead-patients-family-testifies
