The Debate

I’m hoping to be at a debate event tonight; I’ll do a “delayed liveblog” when I get home from it.

Assuming it happens, of course:

The first presidential debate between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama remained in doubt Friday, the very day it was to be held, embroiled in the same partisan divisions that were holding up a Wall Street bailout plan.

Obama said he intended to travel to the University of Mississippi in Oxford, where the debate had long been scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. EDT. McCain, who had proposed delaying the contest so the two presidential hopefuls could help negotiate an economic rescue plan, wouldn’t commit.

Mac, of course, made the right call for the right reasons – to do the job his constituents elected him to do in a time of crisis.   Of course, even as Obama shows his superfluity, the press continues to cover for him.

I have a hunch it’ll go on; there’s too many undecideds out there and, frankly, if I’m Mac’s staff I’m thinking Obama is a big, slow target in a debate.

I think Mac’s point is made; his priorities in the right place.  I’m gonna cross my fingers.

  1. When is a leader not a leader?

When he claims to be interested in bi-partisan comprise, and then derails an agreement by a. waffling and then b. supporting a more conservative plan with no chance of success.

When he claims to be decisive, and then, when the spotline is shone upon him for a response, derails the plan he had only hours before supported by stating he supports the doomed plan from his own parties in-fighting.

When he claims he has to suspend his campaign to participate in negotiations and then, at the most important point in his candidacy, blinks and says simply “I support the principals of the House Republican proposal.” Wow John, pretty profound, pretty insistant, pretty incisive.

This man is NOT ready to lead. This man is John McCain. He’s clearly simply going with where his party seems to tell him to go. He’s not a uniter, and he’s sure as hell not standing up.

  2. What does the bi-partisan comprise comprise?

Proofreading is a good thing. Andy Aplikowski thinks you’re sloppy, Peev.

    Yoss,

Thanks for putting the spotline on this issue.

  3. When is a leader not a leader?

A leader is not not a leader when he bucks the conventional wisdom to stand for principle – a principle he reasonably believes an awful lot of people support, but don’t have the platform to promote.

A leader is not not a leader when he does the right thing – resists socializing the financial markets – even at potential expense to his own political career.

A leader doesn’t not lead when he doesn’t fail to not hog the “spotline” with his colleagues who are fighting the good fight and resisting the conventional “wisdom” (especially when doing so distances him from the Administration from which he’s always been distant, but which the campaign has prompted his political enemies to fail not to lie about his supposed closeness).

A leader doesnt’ fail not to be a non-leader when he leads, rather than blindly following the media, the administration, and hordes of lefty crankbloggers.

Glad I could answer your question.

  4. I thought Peev always stood AGAINST the “I don’t know what it is, but I’ll know it when I see it” philosophy.

Peev, you ignorant slut, you simply say Yes to anything Oback Barama says and no to anything McCain says.

You’re the guy who ignores any criticism that we local conservatives have leveled at McCain and ignores our requests that he back it up with any kind of evidence.

You’re the guy who thinks campaigning is an important job when compared to the inconvienence of being a senator.

You’re the guy who flips his lid when criticized (or simply been targeted with a mild joke) and complains that folks are snarky, and then proceeds to smear and insult at top speed.

I’m not calling for you to change your attitude or your actions, Peev. Keep it up, in fact. You’re doing a Hell of a job representing your extreme wing. (That, and it is absolutely hillarious!)
