Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them

Citing a 90% correlation of Senator McCain’s voting record with the President’s, Obama and his brainwashed minions have gotten a lot of mileage out of the mantra that the McCain Presidency will be third term for the Bush administration.

Is this the same McCain who drove Republicans nuts on campaign finance, the environment, taxes, torture, immigration and more? Where has McCain not crossed swords with his own party?

And in a striking bit of irony, at the same time calling McCain a liar.

As it’s being used, the 90 percent figure, from Congressional Quarterly, is nonsensical. As Washington Post congressional reporter Jonathan Weisman explained, “The vast majority of those votes are procedural, and virtually every member of Congress votes with his or her leadership on procedural motions.”

Obama might want to be a little careful with these attacks, as the same measure has him voting with Democrats 97 percent of the time.

The truth is, McCain is more like the average American than the President, and much more so than Obammy.

According to the League of Conservation Voters, John McCain is the ultimate centrist. While the average Republican supported liberal environmentalist positions 13 percent of the time, and the average Democrat supported them 76 percent of the time, McCain’s 44 percent put him in the middle.

As Obama and his teleprompter-feeders might recall, many conservatives have held McCain in contempt of our most dearly-held beliefs. Its safe to say more than a few of us will vote for McCain as the lesser of two evils.

Another way to look at these numbers is to see how many of the 99 other senators voted more conservatively than McCain. In 2006, these four groups ranked McCain as the 47th, 46th, 44th and 51st most conservative member of the Senate, respectively. Surely, McCain is not nearly as liberal as the typical Democratic senator, but rankings from the left, middle and right find he is more liberal than the vast majority of Republicans in the Senate.

In contrast to the very liberal ratings given to Obama, the interest groups find that there are about as many senators to McCain’s right as there are to his left. This might not endear him to many conservatives or liberals. But it is a real distortion to claim he is a Bush clone.

Each Candidate’s selection for Vice President, adjusting for political expediency, is far more telling as to their true intent.

Obama’s “Change” platform is belied by the choice of the nation’s second most liberal senator, self-admittedly a life-long member, having joined the club at age twenty nine. Furthermore, Obama’s choice reveals a striking inability to lead as clearly he chose Biden in a moment of weakness, retreating to a default position. Hillary was the clear choice, but would have also required Obama to summon a degree of leadership not within his grasp.

McCain’s courageous (and admittedly calculated) choice of Sarah Palin shows McCain is willing to enlist the aid of someone else who has challenged his own party’s entrenchments. The fact that she’s a woman, and a babe, is the frosting, not the cake.

As it stands, McCain/Palin represents far more hope for a detour from politics as usual than Obama/Biden.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them? Exhibit A: Barack Obama

  1. McCain’s courageous (and admittedly calculated) choice of Sarah Palin shows McCain is willing to enlist the aid of someone else who has challenged his own party’s entrenchments.

No, it shows a pandering, desparate bone thrown out to bring in his own parties extreme end.

Sarah Palin belongs to, and preaches at, a church most of us would find weird at best in the way it conducts itself. If Obama is to be viewed by the light of the priest at the church he attended – how shall Palin be seen for advocating the pretense of speaking in ‘tongues’, or abiding a priest who suggests that his flock is to go out and by prayer, root out real, live demons, and subsequently will reduce crime by that act?

JR – Palin is going to be an albatross for McCain – she’s already becoming one. You would do yourself more good by speaking to that honestly, just as I have done about Charles Rangel.

  2. Yoss, you expected anything else?

Peev – you want to make Palin’s church an issue? Really? Do you really want to put that out and then have Jeremiah Wright fully introduced to the American people? What do you think most Americans will find stranger – speaking in tongues, or printing Hamas propaganda in the church bulletin? Be my guest – it won’t redound to your candidate’s benefit.

Good post as always, JRoosh. Obama and his droogs have been throwing out the “liar” meme a lot lately. It’s going to bite them in the tuchus once people start realizing that McCain isn’t the one who is lying.

  3. well, lets see. Catholics have weird association with Jesus’s blood and flesh, Jews think bushes that are on fire talk, other large religions believe in reincarnation. Thanks to Peeve for bring in a religion test into American politics. Clearly the only person qualified to be in office would be an atheist.

  4. Palin is going to be an albatross for McCain
And yet, yet, you lefties are so obsessed with her you just can’t leave it alone. The specatcle of the American Left running a campaign against a VP candidate is stunning. I can smell the fear.

  5. Peev, don’t believe your side’s own press too much. Palin is a huge plus so far where she needs to be.

  6. And where she needs to be, as we all know, is with the wacked out extreme end of the right, because McCain’s ‘maverickism’ doesn’t play on the right, now does it (witness the treatment of the Independent 6 in Minnestota)? So what we have here is the fact that McCain’s ‘reform’ is NOTHING – Palin is the proof. She shows the party faithful (good word that) that McCain will heal when called.

And Mister D – damned STRAIGHT I want to make her church an issue, she’s goofey as hell, and participates actively in something most of us see as extremist. As compared to that, LISTENING to someone who RARELY made outrageous comments – is child’s play, and your allegations of Wright participating in advocating for Hamas are bullshit and not worth a reply, if it were, I gaurantee you that Republicans would be making something of it in commercials – but they aren’t – you know why, because only those cloaked in tin foil hats believe that kind of unproven or losely tied together conspiracy theory crappola (apparently you need to take off the tin foil hat).

  7. Kerm,

I’m hardly afraid of Sarah Palin – except of course if she were to become President, a role she is TOTALLY unqualified for. Compared to Obama, she couldn’t carry his jock, or coat.

He was President of the Harvard Law review, at the same time, she was selling hubcaps. The American people have seen her stonewalling an investigation which has every bit as much proof as that brought against Tom Delay (you know, the one which was totally politically motivated, and Mitch predicted would wind up with Delay back as the Majority Leader ?). They’ve seen her be FOR the bridge to nowhere, until it became politically unacceptable, and then STILL take the money for other projects DESPITE the fact that Alaska already gets 80% of it’s revenue from oil money – she needed federal grants – yeah, that fiscal conservative needed $200 Million more, in a state with 550,000 people – and finally, they’ve seen her show just how unprepared she is to Charles Gibson. National press says the bloom is coming off the rose, only you nutcups don’t get it.

  8. They’ve also seen her say the trip to Washington over which she fired her former brother-in-law’s boss wasn’t authorized, except, it was.

  9. *kicks Yossarian* Ix-nay on the Eev-pay inking-lay ack-bay oo-tay is-hay log-bay.

We may see slimmer posts here if the meat of them is elsewhere.

Hehe — I’m kidding myself, but it may be worth a shot. *shrug*

Is this a new “weird religion” crack? I have never heard of Senator McCain doing any faith healing at all, much less over the phone.

“witness the treatment of the Independent 6 in Minnestota”

That argument has already been smacked to death a couple times here, penigma. Please find something valid (or at least new) to whine about.

    “Palin is the proof”

You make no point at all and then follow up with this. Do you try to make sense, or is your goal to confuse your readers.

“He was President of the Harvard Law review”

Wow. He did nice things in school. *snicker* Yes, I believe this is the best you can do, and yes, it is totally pathetic.

“witness the treatment of the Independent 6 in Minnestota”
Success! you vanquished another windmill thrown up by the evil conservative sorcerers! You and Rocinante must be tired.

“He was President of the Harvard Law review”
and unlike almost every other President of the Harvard Law Review he penned no articles (1 article has been attributed to him but there are doubts and no byline) – in other words title but no substance – once again Peev/Precious you have proved how completely empty a suit BHO truly is.

As Gov Palin pointed out: 2 memoirs and no accomplishments.

  13. I’m hardly afraid of Sarah Palin – except of course if she were to become President, a role she is TOTALLY unqualified for.
An Obama is not qualified to be Commander in Chief. The military is not a “community” to organize. McCain is running for President, not Palin. You guys have to run against Palin because your candidate is so damn weak. And you know it. So does at least 50% of America.

At least Obama has the Woody Allen/pedophile vote sewn up.

  14. Penigma, I’m curious. You want to make Palin’s church an issue, but not Obama’s? Does his sudden, politically-convenient withdrawal from it take it off the table?

  15. He was President of the Harvard Law review

Oh, goody. He was a really good law student (although take note of what Kel said…). THAT is a qualification. Pfft.

at the same time, she was selling hubcaps.

So now we measure qualifications by comparing what people were doing at a given snapshot in time? “John McCain was a squadron commander when Barack Obama was still in elementary school!”

    Wooh. I spiked THAT ball!

The American people have seen her stonewalling an investigation

…that has no merit, and was brought by a couple of her political enemies in the Alaska Senate.

    That dog don’t hunt.

which has every bit as much proof as that brought against Tom Delay (you know, the one which was totally politically motivated, and Mitch predicted would wind up with Delay back as the Majority Leader ?)

Actually, it has much less proof, and my predictions aren’t really dispositive (although I tend to do pretty well with elections).

They’ve seen her be FOR the bridge to nowhere

And then she changed her mind, in the *right direction*.

they’ve seen her show just how unprepared she is to Charles Gibson

No, they’ve seen ABC News carefully edit hours and hours of video to show the most disparaging parts they could. Several bloggers have showed the unedited transcripts; ABC’s producers made damn sure she didn’t look good. The interview WAS a mistake for Palin – she’d be better off trusting Ahmadinejad than the MSM.

National press says the bloom is coming off the rose,

They have a vested interest in making it seem that way – they are (as always) in the bag for the Democrats.

But more people turned out for the Mac and Sarah rally in Blaine on Friday – on a week’s notice – than protested the RNC on 9/1 (after a year’s worth of relentless publicity and demonization).

only you nutcups don’t get it.

    Nutcups?

Socratic dialogue, thy name is Peev.

    Or Scrotor.

  16. I gaurantee you that Republicans would be making something of it in commercials – but they aren’t – you know why, because only those cloaked in tin foil hats believe that kind of unproven or losely tied together conspiracy theory crappola (apparently you need to take off the tin foil hat).

They are keeping their powder dry, good sir. Watch and see.
