Alaska Gov. Palin Tops Speculation About McCain Veep Pick
DENVER — Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out of the running.
Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage owned by a McCain supporter had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.
On Palin:
Born in Idaho, Palin moved to Alaska when she was three months old with her parents.
She grew up in Wasilla, just outside of Anchorage, and played on the Wasilla state championship girls basketball team. She was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984, and was a runnerup in the Miss Alaska pageant.
She studied journalism and political science at the University of Idaho and graduated in 1987. After graduation, she eloped with her high school boyfriend in 1988 to save money on an expensive wedding. She helped out in her husband’s family commercial fishing business and appeared occasionally as a television sportscaster.
Palin won a seat on the Wasilla City Council in 1992 as a new face, new voice and by opposing tax increases. Four years later she was elected mayor at 32 by knocking off a three-term incumbent. At the end of her second term, party leaders encouraged her to enter the 2002 race for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. Against veteran legislators with far more experience, Palin finished second by fewer than 2,000 votes, making a name for herself in statewide politics. She was elected Alaskas youngest and first woman governor in 2006.

Most recent from ABC News is that Palin is up in Alaska tending to her own State Fair. Unless McCain wants to fake out every body and have them sitting in their home state when called, I’m guessing she’s not it either.
Please tell me next Lieberman isn’t on the list as well….

Most of this summer I was thinking “I can live with Senator Joe”. But no. Not two old white guys. Not when one of them is one of the liberal members of congress (domestic issues). Laura Ingraham seems to believe it is Palin. I just don’t see the exciting rallies occuring on the campus’ with those two.

Well, there’s no way I can get from here to Ohio in two hours. I guess it’s not me.

One word: Hawt.

It’s Palin!

Two ideas:
If it’s Bobby Jindal, I want him to show up to the VP debate in a 7-11 uniform.
If it’s Palin – expect some of the most sexist comments from the Kossacks/DU you’ve ever seen.

I’m a former Alaskan, and went to school with the woman who was appointed chief of police of Wasilla AK, by Palin. I’m going to send her an email this morning to see what her take is on all this.
This is exciting as hell. She’s f’ing amazing.

Palin…her oldest child is going to Iraq. Youngest (I think) has Downs Syndrome. These two items will blunt some of the nasty attacks…and when those nasty attacks occur (and they will be personal), it will backfire huge on the left.
If it is her, then between McCain and Palin, they have three children serving in combat zones.
And some advice to McCain, please say “And Senator Obama votes with Nancy Pelosi 98% of the time”. He really needs to get that out.

The problems with Palin:
She makes it difficult for McCain to push the experience issue against Obama.
Although she’s had executive experience, Alaska is a small state. Population about the same as St. Paul & suburbs, budget about 6 billion.
She’s got a son who is supposed to be deployed in Iraq next month.
She’s not a lawyer. Her eduactional credential (as far as I can tell) are about the same as Mitch’s.

I don’t know, Jindal in a 7-11 outfit would just be the best. Not sure the point would be driven into Biden’s extra thick skull, but it would be among the greatest political moments.
Otherwise I’m pulling for Palin.

She makes it difficult for McCain to push the experience issue against Obama.
That’s not nearly as important for Vice President and she still has more executive experience than Obama.
budget about 6 billion
That’s about 5.5 Billion more than Obama has overseen.

AP says it’s Palin.

From the AP wire:
DENVER (AP) _ McCain source: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is his pick for VP.

Still time for a head fake. Looks like the Palin story is not well sourced.

Strib’s running with it so you could be right.

Risky move. There’s more upside than going with Pawlenty or Romney but more downside too. Mac’s rolling the dice with this one.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Well, this pick should be enough to bring all of America’s women over to a man who will work steadfastly against women’s rights. *snort*
At least she’ll deliver Alaska.

Watching the news today. The talking heads are outright mocking experience. “Just two years ago she was mayor of a tiny town”.
Evidently, that’s a lot different than being a state representative just two years ago.
I’m getting the sense from the clowns on MSNBC that they hate this pick, which tells me this is a great pick.
Romney would have been my first choice, but I’m very happy with Palin. Certainly better than Joementum, Tom Ridge, Hutchinson or Huckabigot.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Well, JeffRosenberg, she’ll make up for picking up all the votes of those bitter people who cling to their guns and their God.

The Palin choice was a stroke of genius. She can speak to those the Democrats left behind: women, working Americans in swing states, and people who have a hunger for real change and real reform.
I never thought McCain would be this bold. Palin represents what’s great about this country, and I could not be more enthused about this pick.

Wikipedia says she’s pro-life and a Life Member of the NRA.
What more do you need to know?
Vote for the hot chick. And the old guy.

“One word: Hawt”
“Vote for the hot chick.”
Yep, just wait for those sexist comments from the left.
August 29th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
The kind of comments we’re waiting to hear from the Left are just like the kind that came out of my Left-Leaner friend’s mouth this week, last week, and last month.
He refers to Republican or conservative women as a “dumb box”.
You see, DS, one’s a compliment… and intended as one. The other doesn’t quite make it in either category.
You see that, right?
August 30th, 2008 at 2:55 am
Well, someone who would call her a “dumb box” is an asshole. When the first comment you have on a vice-presidential candidate is on her physical appearance, that’s a different kind of something.

Disco,
There’s a huge post on that whole subject.
And I have no time to write it.
