How’s That?

Erik Black at the MinnPost writes about the “framing” of the current Presidential campaign.

But it was his framing of the past that caughtmy attention:

…Reagan framed his 1976 challenge to incumbent Jimmy Carter around the question “are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

Perhaps we’ll hear about Carter’s Chistmas bomging of Hanoi next…

  1. This can be a new hashtag game #ErikBlackMinnPostHistoricalFacts

Carter ordered Christmas bombing of Hanoi (I’m re-tweeting that)

After losing the Vietnam War, President Ford was sent to a Vietnamese prison, and was executed.

  2. How about this: “Are you getting more assistance today than you were four years ago?”

  3. Coincidentally, I was watching Morning Joe on MSDNC this morning and the panel repeatedly referred to a Daniel Henniger piece in todays Wall Street Journal titled “It’s 1963 All Over Again” as a smart piece on how Obama is approaching the race as a world-wise incumbent and talking about how much worse things will be if his opponent is allowed to win. I thought as I was watching it that I don’t remember it ever being said that JFK was gloomy or even having a clear opponent prior to his death.
Lo and behold when I picked up my own copy of the WSJ the piece was titled “It’s 1936 All Over Again” and the author was comparing BHO to FDR and noting that many of the same targets FDR spoke of in ’36 were targets of Obama now.
I realize that it’s NBC News, not famous for much beyond bowdlerizng 911 calls and blowing up pick-up trucks – but still.

  4. I am looking forward to the most negative campaign in my lifetime. I really can’t think of a reason to support Romney, I support candidates ob the positions they espouse, but, in Romney’s case I have little idea of what his actual position is on anything. When the media starts to hammer Mitt I don’t think he has the core to stand up for conservative beliefs.

On the other hand I have a very good idea of the positions Obama will take. I have opposed nearly everything the President has proposed.

So just like last time around it looks like a not Obama vote. However, I won’t be surprised when Mitt has a date night with San Fran Nan.
