Hey, I used to laugh at the diverstiry obsession that Big Education has, and blew it off. But you know what? I applied for a job at Land O’Lakes corporate offices a couple of weeks ago, and they asked on the application if I am a homosexual or not. Yes, I should have taken gay studies classes at school to increase the likelyhood of getting a job with Land O’Lakes.

“Are either of you homosexuals?”
“No, but we’re willing to learn.”
“Yeah, would they send us someplace special?”

Kermit, I can tell you from a past employer that now it is the opposite of the armed forces thing. Many Minnesota corporations have gay quotas.

Chuck,
Would I be correct in assuming there was a “Decline to answer” option on that question? If it was on the EEOC materials, then supposedly it’s just demographic info that Land o’ Lakes passes on to the EEOC. Supposedly.
I’m not a lawyer, but if it was on the application, it sounds like lawsuit fodder. That’s a question that an interviewer is not supposed to ask, and I doubt putting it on an application makes it any more acceptable.
