Questions Answered

From the facebook page of Gary Miller, who’s at least exercising some of the brilliance of his late, lamented Truth Vs. The Machine blog over there – a response to one of Obama’s questions from last night:

OBAMA: “What kind of country would this be if this chamber had voted down Social Security or Medicare just because it violated some rigid idea about what government could or could not do?” ~President Barack Obama

MILLER: Um, a solvent one? One that abides by the rule of law perhaps?

I think it’s time to give an Obama speech the MST3K treatment…

  1. Listening to the Hugh Hewitt live feed was much better than actually having to watch our smug, arrogant president on TV.

  2. I didn’t watch the King’s speech last night. I was at work. But I read it today and found it tedious and mendacious. Here are some examples of the latter:

“We all remember Abraham Lincoln as the leader who saved our Union. But in
the middle of a Civil War, he was also a leader who looked to the future – a
Republican president who mobilized government to build the transcontinental
    railroad…”

In fact, the Transcontinental railroad was launched because some of the same rapacious millionaires that bother progs so much lobbied Congress for years to get the project underway. Lincoln held office after the secession of the Confederacy removed the opposition. Naturally he signed it, because it was a win-win situation. Bonds were sold (and repaid, with interest) and private enterprise went to work. By the way, there was no need for environmental impact statements or clearance from the EPA. The same job could never be carried out today. The railroads made a nice profit selling off land from the right of way given them by the government. We all benefited. I think that’s called supply side economics. No subsidies were involved. If you read any leftist oriented history books, check out their treatment of 19th century capitalism.

Again: “How many jobs would it have cost us if past Congresses decided not to support the basic research that led to the Internet and the computer chip?”

Well, the internet was a defense project. Remember the Cold War? All those lovable socialist republics that the peaceful Democrats wanted to sing Kumbaya with were the reason why the government developed it. And the computer chip? You can thank Texas Instruments, a private company that began life as Geophysical Science, a company that pioneered seismic methods to help with–are you sure you can stand it?–the petroleum industry. That’s right, the same folks that Obama mentioned earlier in his speech: “Should we keep tax loopholes for oil companies?”

And so on, and so on.

Obama is like the alcoholic who promises to “quit tomorrow.” Just another fifth of publicly funded whiskey and he’ll be able to face another sunrise. I’m not sure if we (and he) have truly hit rock bottom. The jobs bill is a way he can survive a tough re-election challenge by either: accusing the republicans of obstructionism if it doesn’t pass, or if it does, begging for more time after nothing goes better in the next 12 months. He isn’t stupid politically even if he knows nothing about economics. It’s always worked for him in the past. Why change now?

  3. I still have a hard time believing that Obama taught constitutional law.
He does not seem to realize that the presidency is one of three co-equal branches of government. He does not seem to know that the constitution defines what the federal government can and cannot do.

  4. Obama is like the alcoholic who promises to “quit tomorrow.”
I think he’s more like the compulsive gambler, who after losing his house and car thinks “Just on more time. I know I’m gonna hit the Big One”. The Mafia made fortunes off of guys like Barry.

  5. The Mafia made fortunes off of guys like Barry.

And still are. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

  6. Obama believes that American businesses will succeed or fail depending on his approval, when in fact his presidency will succeed or fail depending on what American businesses think of him.
He was stupid enough to think that Chicago-style politics would work when applied to the entire country. F’n moron.
