    4. Get back from vacation, announce that between all the golf and fundraising parties with Wall Street and Hollywood, did not have a chance to come up with a jobs plan. Will do so during next vacation, as soon as next bus tour campaign is over. Will be delayed only by an occasional round of golf.

  2. Kermit Says:

    5. Blame Republicans in Congress for utter failure to come up with a jobs plan. Continue fundraising.

  3. Terry Says:

I’ve heard the idea of an ‘infrastructure bank’ floated by lefty pols and economists lately. This is supposed to A) provide jobs and B) repair our crumbling infrastructure.
Don’t believe the hype. Most of our infrastructure is properly in the domain of the states, not the federal government.
I have not yet heard any mention of how this ‘infrastructure bank’ will be funded.
If it comes about, it will be corrupted by political spending. It makes no economic sense to spend infrastructure money in a state which has good infrastructure but a low unemployment rate, but it might make a great deal of political sense. Remeber that the federal government is the least democratic level of government. Pols will react as they always do when they see a big pile of money — they will try to spend it on their supporters and will do whatever they can to not be held accountable for that spending.

  4. Chuck Says:

    1) Increase goverment spending and regulation
    3) Success!!

  5. Terry Says:

The libertarians over at Reason.com defend their analysis of high-speed train boondoggles against an assault by politifact. The funny thing is that politifact criticizes the Reason article because it is written by a “biased” opponent of high speed rail while politifact’s reports are, of course, written and edited by big government lefties.

  6. Troy Says:

Those Reason guys just don’t understand. It’s “PolitiFact”. You don’t question it, you’re just supposed to believe!

  7. Dog Gone Says:

I notice that Obama’s vacations seem to be so much shorter, and infrequent, than the Bush vacations. Speaking of golfing….notice where Boehner is this week? Hint: It is not working on creating jobs.
They also reflect a period of economic growth that exceeds the debacle created by the outcome of the later Bush years and Republican government policies, including the Bush tax cuts.

There is a certain symmetry in announcing a jobs plan on or around Labor Day, and it is a rather smart assessment of the news cycles in August versus September. It’s certainly NOT like all those Republicans are sitting in Congress in DC working on job creation. In fact a close scrutiny of the entire House of Representatives for 2011 shows a glaring lack of attention to important business while there was an active and aggressive pursuit of the unpopular conservative culture war agenda instead. Seems to me your finger pointing should be much closer to home on the issue of jobs and politicians.

(Hope you found the webinar on blogging and law that I sent you interesting, Mitch.)

  8. Terry Says:

“I notice that Obama’s vacations seem to be so much shorter, and infrequent, than the Bush vacations. ”
You “noticed” none of these things. You are repeating left wing talking points. Did you get them from comedian Jon Stewart or sportscaster Keith Olbermann?

  9. Terry Says:

Unemployment over 9%, stock market tanking . . can you think of a similar time when any president took a vacation, Dog Gone?
I didn’t think so. Lefties can’t think. They can only repeat the slogans and tired memes they have been taught by the people they like to think of as their betters.

  10. Kermit Says:

the unpopular conservative culture war agenda
Boy, I’d sure love to see a FACT CHECK on this breathless assumption.

How are Obama’s Gallup numbers looking lately? That’s something you can FACT CHECK. I personally hope he takes the next 16 months off. THAT might actually help the economy.

  11. Terry Says:

You’ll notice that Dog Gone’s description of the later Bush years coincides exactly with the Democrat takeover of the House of Representatives and the Senate in January 2007.
The takeover was NOT due to the economy, which was doing quite well in late 2006 — that is, until the Democrats took control of congress. It was due to the unpopularity of the Iraq War.
There is never any real analysis from that side. There is no search for the truth, or its best approximation, just a parrot-like repetition of talking points.

  12. bosshoss429 Says:

Un, Doggie, either your Fact Checking is definitely lacking or you are just reverting to typical left wingnut bs, because your side controlled both houses during the “later Bush years” and yet, they kept spending money they didn’t have. And, the next time that you are on your knees worshipping your Dear Leader Obumbler, ask yourself why, if he’s so intent on further taxing the rich, why he and Moochelle didn’t give back their share of the “Bush Tax Cuts” that they received in the form of a $387,000 plus income tax refund? Man, to Obama, that must be as bad as putting a liberal in a round room and telling them that there is free money in the corner! But, hey, keep being a useful idiot, because you are such a great one!

  13. Mitch Berg Says:

I notice that Obama’s vacations seem to be so much shorter, and infrequent, than the Bush vacations.

So when people criticize Obama for taking a vacation, he responds – rightly – that the President is never really on vacation.

Is that the case (he asks, rhetorically)? Was it the case for W? If not, why are you TEH HEPPOCREET?

    🙂 <---but I still want an answer.

  14. Mitch Berg Says:

Speaking of golfing….notice where Boehner is this week?

With the rest of Congress – on recess.

Hint: It is not working on creating jobs.

What is Congress’ job in re “creating jobs?”

    This should be interesting.

  15. Mitch Berg Says:

They also reflect a period of economic growth that exceeds the debacle created by the outcome of the later Bush years

    Um, what?

and Republican government policies, including the Bush tax cuts.

Ah. So unemployment slipped back down to 5% while I was at work then?

  16. Mitch Berg Says:

There is a certain symmetry in announcing a jobs plan on or around Labor Day, and it is a rather smart assessment of the news cycles in August versus September.

I’m sure all the people who are unemployed because companies can’t justify hiring while they’re waiting for the budget, credit and healthcare fiascoes to be resolved appreciate the geometric beauty of it all.

    Let them eat Golden Means!

  17. Mitch Berg Says:

It’s certainly NOT like all those Republicans are sitting in Congress in DC working on job creation.

Which is an incredibly cynical strawman (straight from Media Matters, actually); Republicans oppose, rightly, using government to create make-work jobs.

They ARE working to create, and recover, the conditions that make hiring possible, however.

  18. Mitch Berg Says:

In fact a close scrutiny of the entire House of Representatives for 2011 shows a glaring lack of attention to important business while there was an active and aggressive pursuit of the unpopular conservative culture war agenda instead.

Where “close scrutiny” equals “slavish recitation of the chanting points Media Matters wants leftybloggers to chant.

  19. Mitch Berg Says:

Seems to me your finger pointing should be much closer to home on the issue of jobs and politicians.

    Based on what?

Because you certainly haven’t provided any reason for it.

(And you might want to retire the “you have more fingers pointed at you” line. Pen made that line into a bit of a joke around these parts).

  20. golfdoc50 Says:

Job Creation in the Age of Obama
Kind of reminds me of the underpants gnomes’ business plan:

    1. Steal underpants
    2. ?
    3. Profits!

  21. Ben Says:

at least the underpants gnomes were funny. Obama is just annoying and scary.

  22. Ben Says:

I have to admire DG’s consistency and I hope she shows up to the MOB party on saturday. Maybe we could convert her. The mere fact that she still reads this blog means all is not lost.

  23. Terry Says:

“(And you might want to retire the “you have more fingers pointed at you” line. Pen made that line into a bit of a joke around these parts).”
Do you mean the “You have more fingers pointed at you than an octopus whose tentacles are made out more octopuses whose fingers are made of more octopuses” line?

  24. gmg425 Says:

    4. Pray that nobody notices that Obama jobs 9.0 is the same ‘government must invest in the economy’ crap that he’s peddled in his other pivots to jobs.

  25. jpmn Says:

I’m with DG on this one. Obama taking a vacation anywhere is NOT the problem. The problem is that he will come back. About a year and a half and he can vacation anywhere anytime.

  26. bosshoss429 Says:

And, jp, may I add for as long as he wants!

  27. Troy Says:

A realistic jobs plan, step 1: take boot of the neck of industry.

  28. LearnedFoot Says:

    Successful troll is successful.

  29. Troy Says:

By “of” I mean “off”, of course.

  30. Seflores Says:

Lynyrd Foot is my go to guy for all things law-talking and urban dictionary refererring. One can always count on Doggone to be at the bottom of a post with 20+ comments.
Successful troll is successful. And the Dude abides.

  31. golfdoc50 Says:

News flash: Obama admits the Federal government, after all these years, has not been an equal opportunity employer. OK, tongue firmly in cheek. Still, this Presidential proclamation from yesterday is a real howler. You can’t make this stuff up: http://1.usa.gov/q6d2tF

  32. Terry Says:

Krauhammer did the best job of explaining why even the left has problems with Obama’s vacation. He just spent weeks excoriating the rich corporate types and hedge fund managers as greedy, selfish people who put their own lust for money above the good of the country and now he goes to spend his vacation hanging out with them.
