…from early childhood, President Obama…
…and you are no Martin Luther King:.
And now that King has his own memorial on the Mall I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times. There was a decade that followed the great successes of Birmingham and Selma in which he was just struggling, fighting the good fight, and scorned, and many folks angry.
Heh.
But what he understood, what kept him going, was that the arc of moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. But it doesn’t bend on its own.
Yep. We understand it, and it keeps us going too.
And I’m starting to think it might just bend back in November of 2012.
I’m not surprised that the One compares Himself with MLK Jr. (Pause, while I vomit several times.) Let’s look at His initial misstatement of the facts. There was no “decade following the great successes of Birmingham and Selma.” Those events occurred in 1963-1965. So there was a half decade between them until King’s assassination in 1968.
King put himself in harm’s way more times than the One has played golf this year, often with no cameras around to record the attacks by his enemies. The One, in contrast, grew up in happier circumstances, attended private school in Hawaii, Ivy League universities and was paid a huge advance to take a year off to write an autobiography published when He was just 35.
If we needed another reason to behold His narcissism, look no further than the quotation cited above.
The One is trying to forge a new narrative for his re-election campaign. He’s obviously not Mr. hopey-Changey anymore, he’s poison and death to job creation, he does not inspire optimism like the Gipper.
So he’s seeing if he’ll be any more popular as Mr. Civil Rights.
I don’t think that it will work. He wasn’t even living in the US when King was assassinated.
Look for Obama to try on more roles after this one fails. Maybe he’ll try to get Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld indicted for War Crimes. Or maybe he really will go all Putin on us and take up racing formula 1 cars and holding state dinners on the Disco Volante.
Well when your Gallup Poll approval rating is only 39%
