We Don’t Have Brian Sullivan To Kick Around..Yet.

By Mitch Berg

MDE and TvM both report that Brian Sullivan is not interested in running for Jim Ramstad’s seat…

…but Brodkorb says Henco sheriff Rich Stanek might be.

Stanek would join the list of candidates I’d seriously get behind.

The winner of that seat will almost certainly:

    a. Come from one of the first or second tier suburbs (Bloomington/Minnetonka etc..)

    b. Be very much a moderate

    c. NOT be a neo-kook conservative or

    d. be Wendy Wilde or any other radical kook

Peevish, I agree! It will be a Paleo-kook!

If I knew what a Paleo-kook was, I might agree..

the point is this, if you’re looking for another Bachmann goofball, MN GOP is not going to get it. That district went by about 5% to Bush in 2004, but is trending very centrist overall, and remember, 2004 was the ‘drumbeat of fear’ year, so I doubt that it’s all that likely to be that great of a spread.

That said, I expect a Republican will win it – but it depends on who the DemocratIC candidate is. If Dave Johnson or Anne Lenzcewski run – they’ll stand a very good chance of winning. Lenzcewski is a conservative Democrat – Johnson only slightly less so. Either way, someone more centrist than Ramstad on fiscal issues, pretty centrist on the economy in general, and very much NOT a centrist on simply continuing in Iraq ad infinitum – while foolishly blaming the Iraqi government – is going to win. 2008, and most likely 2012, will be about the war. Much as Mitch tries to change the subject to the talk ‘about the war’ rather than the war- it will be about the war.

Conversely, the Dems could run Dave Johnson (former MN Senate seat holder from Bloomington, VERY popular, and would likely win. Or Ann Lenzcewski, or maybe even Dan Larsen) again, all probably would win.

woops. thought I cut that last paragraph out.

  5. billhedrick Says:

    What’s a neo-kook then?

FYI Ed Byrnes played the paleo-kook in 77 Sunset Strip

  6. peevish Says:

Well, better Maynard G. Krebbs than Col (Bat) Guano.

I read up on one of the complaints against Staneck, seems like more hot air than anything else – seems like Stanek did his job (which btw, 90% of the people in the world are good people who do good work – liberal, conservative, libertarian, Libertarian).. though using ‘boy’ is a poor choice of words at best. The rest was unfounded hyperbole, but then again, that never stopped Mitch from ginning up a complaint.

Poster child for the Neo-Cook campaign button..

  9. billhedrick Says:

    Neo-Cook?
    mmmmm nuevo cuisine….

  10. billhedrick Says:

BTW, Edd “Kookie” Burnes was not Maynard G. Krebs.

  11. peevish Says:

Yes, I know.. but he was similar.

  12. peevish Says:

Neo-Kook, Neo-Cook, you say Reactionary, I say Fascist.. let’s call the whole thing off.

  13. billhedrick Says:

Still would like a definition of a neo-kook, not an example that can be misinterpreted.

BTW, comparing the swinger Kookie to the beatnik Maynard is like comparing Clinton to Bush

I advise the defendant to plead not guilty, on the ground that it is duck season, not wabbit season.
