A Modest Proposal

By Mitch Berg

Some Minnesota conservative bloggers intensely oppose the idea of a special session; they want to hold Pawlenty to the letter of his “No New Taxes” pledge.

Others can see some political benefit to Pawlenty calling a limited special session and looking all statesmanly.

I’d like to suggest a compromise; have the special session (limited solely to rebuilding the bridge), contingent upon one condition:  force Larry Pogemiller to bark like a dog.

I think it’d make everyone happy.

shouldn’t we wait for a special session once we know how much $ the feds are kicking in?

secondly, shouldn’t there be a special session to deal with the flood ravaged SE portion of the state?

I think Larry would prefer to “squeal like a pig.”

I don’t understand a need for a special session because of the bridge collapse. Is there some needed action that isn’t being done because of a lack of funds? I haven’t heard of anything.

Addressing the flooding in SE Minnesota seems to have a greater sense of urgency. Pawlenty just released about $30 million in state aid without any legislative action, but more is needed, and the sooner the better.
