One For The Hall Of Fame

Franken, in national news, dozes off during the Kagan hearings:

Every few years, we, as Americans, get to sit back and literally watch history being made in front of our very eyes. We get to see our country’s future being written. We get to- Oh my God! Is Al Franken falling asleep? He totally is!

During Elena Kagan’s opening remarks today, Sen. Franken had a bit of a hard time keeping his eyes open. In his defense, I’m sure many people who watch the confirmation hearings felt the same way. Seriously, do these people know how to blather, or what? Still though, you’d think Franken, as a graduate of live television, would know better than to nod off with so many cameras around.

Yeah, Minnesota, you chose well.

Thanks, DFL.

  1. After his nap, Senator* Porn-O-Rama did a little doodling:

Snoozin’ & a-doodlin’…you know, come to think of it, I can’t think of any way I’d rather have Al spend his time out there.

  2. A commenter at my place suggested this could be an SNL skit with Rachel Dratch and Fred Armisen. And by the way, I thank Sen. Franken for his service.

  3. I found his comments at the end of the first day of the Kagan hearings well-researched and spot on. He’s gotten a lot of praise for them.

He seems to be serving the constituency of this state a heckuva a lot better than Bachmann – his attendance record, his legislative record, and his voting record all exceed hers.

  4. That’s so sweet. Doggie has to throw up the old “Bachmann Sucks” defense to deflect criticism of the Democrat hack.

Franken represents the DNC, not Minnesota. The carpetbagger only moved back here so he could run for the Senate.

  5. Sen. Franken (The Dog thinks he’s really super-better than Bachmann… really! Peev told her to say it.) wasn’t sleeping at all.

He wanted folks to think that E-Kag is really boring and not worth all the fuss.

  6. He seems to be serving the constituency of this state a heckuva a lot better than Bachmann – his attendance record, his legislative record, and his voting record all exceed hers.

She’s in the House, he’s in the Senate, so comparing attendance records is problematic. And since you’ve conveniently managed to avoid stating the parameters for why Franken’s legislative and voting record exceed Bachmann’s, your statement is meaningless.

But nice try, Mrs. Teasdale — I’m sure the Pampers-clad reprobate appreciates your support.

    DG,

You and Pen continually do this; when shown an example of a Democratic doing something wrong/stupid/illegal/wasteful/whatever, you (pl) resopnd “Oh, yeah? Well, [some Republican] is worse!”. And when a conservative commentator (me, for example) criticizes a Demcratic, you (pl) resopnd “If you didn’t criticize [some Republican, frequently for some offense that is utterly unrelated if not pretty much imaginary], you can’t say anything”.

Every debate them becomes a matter of comparing endless lists of grievances.

It’s exceedlingly anti-logical; every argument becomes an unproductive series of red herrings.

Bachmann’s record is something the citizens of the Sixth District will decide in November; they will re-elect her by at least a 6-8 point margin, and it’ll be the closest election she’ll have for the rest of her career.

  8. Dog Gone, your Franken-lust is exceeded only by your ignorance.

Rapanos slapped down federal over-reaching and restored property rights to individual landowners.

Citizens United over-ruled an Un-Constitutional attempt to abridge my freedom to join my political speech with others and to speak timely before an election.

Stoneridge says you can sue the person who defrauded you, but you can’t sue other people who didn’t defraud you, even if those other people have deep pockets, a decision that protects me from wasteful lawsuits brought by money-hungry trial lawyers.

In no event am I worse off than before these decisions. And that doesn’t even mention McDonald, the most important individual rights decision of the century.

The Roberts court has been a spectacular success for individual rights. Franken is either a knave or a fool, depending on whether he knows it and lies about it, or doesn’t know it but speaks about it anyway.

    .

That’s mostly your fault, Mitch. If you take anything any leftist assnozzle says seriously enough to attempt an adult response, you’re responsible for the dim-witted response you get.

I keep tryin’ to teach y’all.

  10. If you take anything any leftist assnozzle says seriously enough to attempt an adult response

It’s a hobby. Like building model ships in bottles; pointless to the non-aficionado, but a diversion and a stress reliever in its own way and, unlike building model ships, of no lasting import.

  11. I visited the kinfolk in Minnesota in August last year. I went to the state fair & saw Franken at the MPR stage.
The audience was middle class and lilly white. I couldn’t ID one person of color or anyone that looked as though they worked with their hands for a living. His demographic seems to white collar public employees and adjunct profs at UM.

  12. DogGone, the technical name for your argument is the “ad hominem fallacy” with a touch of diversionary tactics. If you’re going to claim that liberalism is the intellectual choice, you might do well to avoid the basic fallacies of informal logic when making arguments.

Regarding who is doing a better job representing their district; it seems to me that Bachmann had a much stronger majority than did Franken, and that her votes are far more in line with her district than Franken’s are with the state as a whole, which did not support Obamanations like Obamacare and such. Plus, Bachmann does a far better job expressing the reasons for her votes than does Franken.

Missing a few votes does not mean that you’re not doing a good job as a representative, and quite frankly, I’d like it if Franken missed a lot more votes. He’d be doing far less damage.

My God. I’ve written public relations materials that didn’t come across as deluded, myopic and cheerleading as the mindless crap you spew. If you hit yourself in the head with a hammer, does it make a long, drawn-out clanging noise?

  14. Bubbasan, over at Apathyboy’s place I tried to explain to Dog Gone and AB that an ad hominem argument was not valid. God help me , they never did understand it. You would have thought I was trying to explain nuclear physics to a moron.
You really, really have to be careful about everything you write over there. Even the simplest economic principles, such as that price controls on a product inevitably lead to unsatisfied demand for the product (ie, shortages) seem beyond that grisly crew.

  15. Banner day for the Gopher State!
Unfunny Al dozes off during the hearing. Back in the day he would have scored some coke to stay awake…http://wonkette.com/233305/al-franken-to-die-in-mysterious-plane-crash/
Then our Senior Senator, Vanilla Fluff, has a little girl talk with nominee Kagan “OMG, lets see Twilight 2nt, txt me:~”
    http://www.breitbart.tv/klobuchar-to-kagan-lets-talk-twilight/
Hopefully Bachmann said something that out of context sounds stupid today so that Journ-O-Lists won’t have to cover how incredibly lame our Senate delegation is.

  16. “Franken is either a knave or a fool”

Personally, I can’t find any reason not to stipulate that he is both.

  17. Personally, I can’t find any reason not to stipulate that he is both.

Yep, he’s a package deal that way.

Good catch on the Klobuchar bit, Seflores — one of these days people are going to start paying attention and they’ll realize what a gust of helium our Senior Senator really is.

  18. “My God. I’ve written public relations materials that didn’t come across as deluded, myopic and cheerleading as the mindless crap you spew. If you hit yourself in the head with a hammer, does it make a long, drawn-out clanging noise?”

    Spot on, Yoss.

    ….

Terry, some day ayebee/deegee might grasp the meaning of ‘ad hominem’… and peevee might learn what a ‘hypocrite’ is… and pigs might fly…
