I’ve been reminding a lot of people of that summer, and I vividly remember working outside all that summer. 104 in the shade and downwind of a manure pile and goose pen does wonders for one’s study ethic the next semester in college.

  2. Emery Says:

Nature, like energy and love, is form-agnostic. It’s indifferent to humanity, and we’re obliged to respect its rules. Sooner or later, we will pay our debt to Nature.

  3. Blade Nzimande Says:

I remember those hot, sticky Summers in Minnesota. It gets hot down here too, but we don’t have to shower off a nasty paste of crushed mosquitos and sweat every few hours.

What’s the mosquito forecast up there in HaCK today, rAT? Coudy, partly cloudy or raining? Listen, I’ve got a million dollar idea for you. It’s a bespoke gown of mosquito netting that covers a poor wretch from head to toe, with just a little slit to see out of, like muzzy women.

You can call it “They HaCKy SaCK”.

Maybe you’ll make enough money to allow your poor daughter to give her poor, torn-up crimped fish mitten a break.

  4. Blade Nzimande Says:

Say rAT? How often do you 5 convicted child molesters have to report your continued presence to the authorities up there in HaCK?

Is it just once, or do you have to renew it every year like a fishing license?

  5. Blade Nzimande Says:

“Sooner or later, we will pay our debt to Nature.”

That’s deep, rAT. How many years did the judge give you to pay your debt to society for your child molestation conviction?

  6. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

I was living in West Saint Paul in 1988. 105 degrees, but IIRC it was a dry heat. I stopped riding my ’84 Sportster that day (last year of the ironhead sporties) because the oil was running 235 deg.

  7. Emery Says:

From the quality of the comments here, one can see how we got ourselves to this point.

  8. jdm Says:

^ and yet here you are, trying to keep up.

  9. Blade Nzimande Says:

“If reportage is correct, this is the 2nd White House chef dying under suspicious circumstances in less than 10 years? I suppose they overhear and know a lot of details.”

Word on the street is, TKS, that Big Mike caught that chef knee deep into Barry’s colon.

  10. Blade Nzimande Says:

Crap…wrong thread. This is the laughing at rAT thread…sorry.

  11. Blade Nzimande Says:

You needed to put an oil cooler on that Sporty, MMP. It was standard issue in Cali, back in the day.

  12. Blade Nzimande Says:

Whooo boy…gonna be a scorcher in HaCK today…and that rusty air conditioner hanging out the window just isn’t gonna handle it, probably. Asbestos siding is classy, sure, but it really holds the heat in, don’t it, rAT?

I bet you *can’t wait* to hit that bottle of Stoli sitting in the freezer, can you rAT? G’head…take a li’l nip, before the res boys show up.

  13. Emery Says:

How is it that the supposedly highly educated SiTD readership contains so many climate change deniers.

“I really don’t care about climate change. Miami will be under water? So what? We need to focus on making money” ~ Stewart Kirk, head of sustainable investing at HSBC

The insurance industry is the canary in the coal mine because actuarial tables don’t lie.

  14. escapefromstl Says:

Do-Gooders say weather is not climate, yet every weather event is climate change.

It means both everything and nothing at the same time.

  15. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

“How is it that the supposedly highly educated SiTD readership contains so many climate change deniers.”

We don’t. The climate is constantly changing, everybody knows that, due to causes ranging from volcanos and meteor strikes to solar cycles of sun spots. We are ANTHROPROGENIC climate change deniers. We deny that the activities of mankind are the cause of climate change and therefore forcing people to alter their behavior will have no effect on climate change.

What? Word too big for you?

    Never mind.

  16. Emery Says:

I look forward to being told that this is a nuanced issue, in need of thorough deliberation. Anticipating that the nuances won’t be unpacked and explained by the great critical thinkers running the show, I suggest they are threefold: laziness, mischief and greed. Even the much-derided boomers know this. You’d think we wouldn’t get fooled again.

  17. TKS Says:

I’ll never forget 1988. This is not even close to 1988.

I follow durangoweatherguy on Facebook. He posted this yesterday: “We have short-term weather memories and forget how cold it was this spring and during the beginning of the summer. The truth is the heat has only been in place for about 2 1/2 weeks. When you look at the average temperatures over the last 45 days it has been average to below average in most of the US. This data is from NOAA’s CDAS (the climate data assimilation system). It shows the average temperatures over the last 45 days.”

The map had a whole lot of blue in it. People were commenting from around the world about how unseasonably cool it’s been where they live. We’re being gaslit so damn hard this year it’s amazing.

  18. Blade Nzimande Says:

    Say rAT?

Are you going to post more real estate offerings of PriME LakEFRonT properties (200′ of lake front! ZOMG!!) you don’t live anywhere near, and couldn’t afford if your daughter’s crimped fish mitten was gold plated?

    C’mon…be a sport.

  19. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

No need to do any thinking until evidence is presented.

The single bigggest factor which undermines the Anthroprogenic Climate Change theory is the ever-changing data sets. That raises suspicions that the ‘scientists’ are not seeking to Disprove the theory (traditional Baconian scientific practice) but instead are trying to Bolster the theory (traditional Democrat political practice).

It would help immensely if someone could produce a chart based on consistent data which showed three lines: human activity, sunspot activity and temperature.
A correlation between temperature rise and human activity while simultaneously showing no link to sunspot activity would be compelling.

Note I said “consistent” data. Saying “as of today, we now measure temperature at the ground instead of six feet above ground, as we have for a hundred years” makes me suspect you’re really saying “the old data didn’t prove my theory so I came up with new data which does.” That’s not compelling.

Some of your collective claim to have science degrees, Emeries. Go ahead. Make the chart. Link to the data bases used. Convince us.

Once again, when the gloBULL warming propaganda spewers act like it’s a crisis, I just might, at least one third, believe it. But, until the leaders of this movement quit buying beachfront mansions (Al Gore, Barackus Obamanus and the Piglosi’s), flying around the world in private jets to their climate discussions where they ban Nobel Laureates from speaking against their lies and driving around in 50 foot long, 15,000 pound limousines, to me, it’s just made up bull crap!

  25. Emery Says:

@Swift — Your non sequitur is showing.

  26. Blade Nzimande Says:

    This is interesting:

Minneapolis man receives stayed sentence in Cass Lake stabbing death

WALKER – A 35-year-old Minneapolis man received a stayed sentence Tuesday, July 25, for the stabbing death of another man in 2022 near Cass Lake.

Floyd Robert Desjarlais admitted to stabbing Makhoa Martin in May 2022 while the two argued and physically fought at a home in Pike Bay Township north of Cass Lake. Desjarlais accepted a plea agreement May 24, 2023, to a charge of felony first-degree assault.

Desjarlais appeared Tuesday before Judge Christopher Strandlie in Cass County District Court. Before sentencing, Cass County Attorney Benjamin Lindstrom told Strandlie Martin’s father, Jeremy Jones, wanted to address the court before sentencing.

So this refugee from the “shities” (like rAT and his ER nurse) goes to tHe NorThLAnd (just down the road from rAT) to kill a guy, does it, and gets a stayed sentence?

WTF is going on up there, rAT? What a shithole!

  27. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

The Catholic Church asserts that when the Pope speaks on matters of Catholic doctrine, he speaks “ex cathedra” and his word is infallable. No evidence is required – blind obedience is expected.

You guys in the Emery Collective are not the Pope. Waiting for that chart, boys. Waiting for links to compelling data sets.

    MSP Airport

    WTF?

An airport, with all of its miles of concrete, is the last place to get an accurate temperature reading.

Especially one that is situated in the middle of an urban area with it vast expanses of heat trapping concrete, energy absorbing tar paper roofs and blasting air conditioners.

The resulting rise in temperature is called, “the urban heat island effect.”

  41. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

The problem with climate scientists is that they don’t act like scientists, they act like propagandists with a political objective. The use deceptive charts, stats, and sampling methods. If there is a record high temp in some part of the globe, they talk about it non-stop as another sign of the coming climate apocalypse, if there is a record low temp . . . silence. And they have no problem pointing the finger at particular industries as the bad guys.
You know what? “Climate science” is about human behavior, just like . . . politics.

  42. Emery Says:

    Ken Martin

Wouldn’t it be great to do a “green audit” on Martin? The guy believes that every time he starts his car he is actually pushing us further down the path to the end of the world.
Hell, even the greenies admit that reducing your carbon footprint is indistinguishable from making you poorer.

When you read the article, you will find that, in fact, the loss of fossil assets would destroy an incredible amount of the world’s wealth. This an actual quote from one of the searchers:
“Only a small share of financial losses is borne by the working and middle class because they have no or relatively little financial wealth.”
This isn’t even junior high level economics.

  46. Blade Nzimande Says:

    Hey rAT! Serious question:

How many HaCKians get their Methadone, walk out, look at the bleak landscape and blow their fucking brains out every year up there in the NoRThLanD? What’s the domestic abuse rate look like in your town?

You ever consider eating a bullet, or does the ER nurse keep you mellowed out?
