The Illiterate Leading The Unmotivated
By Mitch Berg
Speaking of schools – the head of the Detroit Public School board, which graduates less than a third of its students, albeit at exquisite expense – writes like an illiterate:
The school board is led by Otis Mathis, who wrote a mass email last August:
Do DPS control the Foundation or outside group? If an outside group control the foundation, then what is DPS Board row with selection of is director? Our we mixing DPS and None DPS row’s, and who is the watch dog?
And here’s the beginning of an email to supporters a few days ago that started with this:
If you saw Sunday’s Free Press that shown Robert Bobb the emergency financial manager for Detroit Public Schools, move Mark Twain to Boynton which have three times the number seats then students and was one of the reason’s he gave for closing school to many empty seats.
Remember when MN2020’s John Fitzgerald said that the big advantage public systems had over charter schools was that you could elect the school board?
Some punch lines write themselves.

Well, in this guy’s defense, he’s an elected representative so he’s supposed to be representative of the community, which sad to say is extremely poorly educated. I’d say he’s an authentic representative. It’s a little like the union, MAPE, criticizing Pawlenty for one of his Met Council rep appointees not having a 4 year degree.
I was born in Detroit, grew up in a suburb. Detroit was getting worse the whole time. By the time I was in high school it was already a chocolate city due to white flight and mayor Coleman Young’s racist machine. But an educated black bourgeoisie (lots of ministers) actually ran everything. Their children seem to have abandoned Detroit and they are mostly gone now.

Some punchlines may write themselves, but a sense of grammar is more important than a sense of humor if anyone is going to get the joke. Why don’t we start a charter school so that no punchline is left behind?

I’m guessing punchlines aren’t allowed because they violate the Zero Tolerance policy for violence or something.

Ignorant, maybe, but more education than most people have.

I’d say that he’s about average for most of the Criminal Justice majors I’ve met…and way ahead of the curve for most AFL-CIO members.

“Ignorant, maybe, but more education than most people have.”
Some same the same about President Obama.
And education is all that counts for certain liberally addled commenters.
Heh heh heh.
I mean, how do expect to get any credibility if you have “Just a college degree with a substantial number of courses from a community college.”
Such peasants should not even be allowed to run for public office, eh dog?

I’m sure Mathis could have gotten a PhD in education if he had been so inclined.
