International swimming‘s governing body ruled over the weekend that transgender athletes will have to have completed their transition by age 12 to compete in international events.
“This is not saying that people are encouraged to transition by the age of 12. It’s what the scientists are saying, that if you transition after the start of puberty, you have an advantage, which is unfair,” James Pearce, who is the spokesperson for FINA president Husain Al-Musallam, told The Associated Press.
I’m noting this, not so much because of the merits of the compromise – which strikes me as the closest they can get to banning transgender competition without explicitly saying so – As to point out the commentary of our “gatekeeper“ class on the subject.
I was listening to the BBC announcing this decision on Sunday. The anchor was interviewing a representative from the international governing body.
She asked “and does this apply to transgender men as well?“
Perhaps I’m projecting – but there was a split second of silence, just a little conversational bitch where, perhaps only in my imagination, the representative seemed to be thinking “are you kidding? How many moons do you imagine orbit a planet where transgender men are a factor in international athletic competition?“
It was probably just me. He answered very politely.
Perhaps knowing that a bunch of lawyers are about to become very, very wealthy.

The decision by FINA seems to be a no-brainer to, well, almost anyone, but the people that actually signed knew that what they were doing was making an official finding that, no, trans women are not women.

Finally a rational decision on this absurd situation which never should have gotten this far. Athletic competition should reflect biological reality rather than psychological reality.

You only think it’s a victory for common sense and traditional values.
This decision supports the push for drag queen shows beginning in kindergarden and queer emphasis curriculum throughout gradeschool, so the children have time to choose a gender by age 8 (Third Grade) and complete the transition by age 12 (Seventh Grade) before puberty begins and they become ineligible to compete in the sport.
The decision being entirely the child’s choice to make, parents’ advice, input or even knowledge of the transition is neither required nor welcome.

I disagree, Joe Doakes.
It’s not common sense prevailing. These people don’t care about common sense. I think that they (FINA) was getting pushback from the parents of adolescent female athletes, who are often quite well off & very aggressive about protecting the interests of their child.
The line has gone from “trans women are women” to “trans women are women if you stop them from going through puberty.”
Puberty blockers are now being exposed as permanent, dangerous alterations to the human body as well.
You can’t just “block puberty.” If you do, you get a freak of nature. The effect of puberty blockers has the same effect as castration.
This is difficult to justify medically. In Europe they are beginning to back off on the idea that childhood “gender dysphoria” is a real thing.

I just saw a peer reviewed paper where they interviewed about 100 “detransitioners”, most of whom felt they’d been pushed into the decision. Obviously this does not re-attach any body parts they lost in the process, and at some point, there is going to be H*** to pay for this. And there should be.
Regarding the decision, I’m glad to see it, but I fear that the LGBT…. community will then proceed to push pre-pubescent kids to this. It’s already starting to a degree.

By stating (incorrectly) that boys who do not go through puberty cab become women, FINA is really echoing Aristotle, who believed that women were spindly, unfinished men.
At some point feminists are going to catch on to this and say “hey, hold on a minute!”
We have never had a more stupid elite class.

Bikebubba, I would suggest doing a little research on the actual surgeries that they do to make women out of men and vice versa. They are maiming people. When the surgery is complete, the biologically male or female body tries to heal these injuries as best it can, and post operative care is basically fighting the body as it tries to heal.
The original idea behind “sex change” surgery, half a century ago, was to try and make the tiny number of people with pathological sexual dysphoria resemble their self imagined sex enough to fool whatever destructive daemon they hosted well enough so that they would not kill themselves.
Today the phenomenon is literally celebrated.

The concern seems to be that this ruling will promote the idea of “transitioning” young boys earlier in life, before age 12. That concern is misplaced. A transition at that point, before age 12, will NOT confer any superiority over female swimmers, so there is no point other than mutilation of your boy-child. Children should be removed from any parent considering such a thing. Besides, it is well known that most gender dysphoria is actually CURED by normal puberty. The old adage is “boys will be boys,” not “boys will be girls.”

MP; no doubt. My point was merely that for those who are not genuinely disphoric, there will be H*** to pay when they realize they’re dealing with what you describe with no hope of getting out of it.
The thing that also strikes me is that there appear to be some people who are simply homosexual, and they think, apparently, that if their superficial genitalia resemble those of the opposite sex, they’re “in like Flynn” for the affections of the opposite sex. Then they learn the hard way that “artificial parts” don’t work like original factory/womb equipment, and even worse, they find that the opposite sex is attracted not just to those parts they’ve adjusted, but really the whole package that says “woman” or “man”, whichever is appropriate.
Again, as more and more people realize they’ve been sold a line of bull, there will be H*** to pay, and when someone eschews suicide for homicide, I’m going to be a most unsympathetic juror to the deceased transition doctors and such.

J. Ewing – removed from the parents and then put under who’s care and authority? The government apparatchiks that are promoting the wonderfulness of all of this? If the parents are this stupid, there is little hope for the child.
