Granted, the “Pledge of Allegiance” isn’t the sine qua non of patriotism, but we’re not really looking for sine qua nons, here.

of course there is an explanation. They suck. Better to show those evil republicans that they wont be broken, than to show respect to their country and flag. All about the priorities.
