Knowing The Riffs…
By Mitch Berg
…is one thing.
Doing all 100 in one 12 minute take, and with only one little tiny flub?
Now that is impressive.

Wow. That was great. But where was the flub, I missed it? And have all the riffs been played? From 88 on, the riffs that stay with you were severely lacking.

It was one tiny little timing flub. I’d have to listen again to find it. It was *subtle*.

Amazing. And depressing. All the good stuff (i.e. the stuff I recognized) was 40 years old. The new stuff is mostly . . . weird. Still – the man is amazing.

Every time I see and hear someone like him I want to gather up my guitars and amps and donate them to some kid with real talent who could put them to better use than I. Just as depressing to me as Mr. Doaks’ depressing observation … At least I might be able to copy some of the simpler ones.
I thought there might have been a minute slip right at the beginning, but if it was a mistake it was virtually unhearable. Thanks for the great post.

He whiffed toward the end of the Black Magic Woman riff. He kind of chuckled about it.

Also (and this is just me being a dick) he played 7 Nation Army in the wrong key.

I had a decent guitar teacher…

He played several of them in different keys than original; I think it was so that his 100 riffs would flow through related keys.
Also, he did a little “interpretation” in Sultans of Swing. Good stuff, mind you, but a takeoff on what Knopfler played…
And thanks!

I kept waiting for cow bell to come in…

That’d be another fun video; rock history via 100 songs played on cowbell.

Definitely needed more cowbell.

Finally got to watch this. Damn. That was outstanding.
