Ya Gotta Have Faith
By Mitch Berg
Kids and I are settling down for the season premiere of 24 in about a half hour.
I hope Joel Surnow learned some lessons from Day Six; if we wanted DC intrigue, we’d flip over to West Wing.
I know, I know; it’s not unlikely that this season could be worse than last season – which was not even a pathetic shadow of Days 1-3.
But I hasten to recall that the first six hours last season were not half bad. So there’s potential.
Fingers crossed. Nacho fixings staged and ready for irradiation. Pop stored in fridge, ready to deploy.

You still watch TV shows as they air? What century are you in?

Funny how you far-right kooks are retreating into the fantasy of a show in which every day brings a new existential threat, the authoritarian elements of government – spies and police – are firmly in control, and torture is A-OK. Bye Bush!

It was the ‘West Wing’ reference that brought out the bit about fantasy fulfillment shows, wasn’t it, AC?

At first blush it would seem that today’s 24 enemy has been met, and it is us.
That should make Clownie happy.

Especially when Jack Bauer is beating the shneikes out of Ivy Leaguers, lefties and demonstrators!

Careful, AC: 24 showed us Bauer’s Bic Pen torture tactic tonight.
One character we can do without is Janane Garofalo’s. Unless Bauer takes a pen to her.

I bet her and Chloe get into a geek-fu match.

I hard that “48” was twice as good, and “12” is just the half-sized verwsion.
As for me, I suppose that “the 4400” ought to be many times better then.

So Bauer is working over this Hamas dude with the bic pen routine but its no-go. The Hamas dude can take it. Bauer is getting nervous! The bomb will go off in minutes if he can’t get the info out of the Hamas scum.
Suddenly the door flys open, and Joe Wurzelbacher steps through.
“Need some help wit dat, Jack?” Says Wurzelbacker, pulling a pipe wrench from his toolbox. “Foreigner, huh? Guess I better use the metric setting.”
I’d pay a dollar to see that. Two dollars if the Hamas dude was wearing a clown suit.

I’m trying to watch it again this season, I watched season one and part of two, but it was too stressful. 🙂 Anyway, hopefully I can follow what’s going on since I missed a bunch of seasons.

Disappointed, so far. The Prequel last Fall was great, so maybe expectations were high!
I prefer to watch 24 as it air as my TIVO is Standard Def only (My large front yard tree prohibits the DirecTV dish from pulling in the HD satellite) and I want the full 16 x 9 HD version for Dolby Digital sound and theater like experience . . .
. . . . but I have my Tivo back up in case I miss something.

PS: Been reading about the Verizon Fiber Optic TV Delivery system.

Not here yet, but that may be my ticket. I vow to NEVER go back to cable, NEVER!

So how come you haven’t chopped down the big tree that’s blocking your HD?
You are simply insufficiently dedicated to all things HD,flash.
“Hey kids! The TV is broke and I can’t afford another until the ping-pong table is paid off! Here, look through this neat kaleidoscope I bought you at the science museum gift shop instead!”

Cut the tree down!
Oh, there’s no need to debate the politics of “24.” It’s an action show, and half of the time the bad guys turn out to be American businessmen, and the rest are foreign terrorists. Both sides can say, “See, we’re right!”
Also, Vince Flynn clearly allowed them to use the Mitch Rapp in front of Congress from the latest book (or t’other way ’round).
