I suspect that the tragic events in the Boston area put a lot of things into perspective and also personalized them.
Could you imagine being the unarmed guy who was holed-up in his house, or one of his close neighbors, and finding out that an armed, remorseless mass murderer was hiding within feet of your home and family? Perhaps many who may had supported civilian disarmament have imagined that scenario (and maybe some which didn’t end as well) and rethought their position.
Do you think those in favor of the strengthening immigration standards or supporting the Second Amendment will appear at public functions surrounded by the survivors and the maimed from the marathon tragedy when they call for reform or protection? Sandyhook seemed to be fair game. Maybe not.
Per Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy (D-VT), “Let no one be so cruel as to try to use the heinous acts of these two young men last week to derail the dreams and futures of millions of hardworking people.”
