Cloture? I Hardly Knew Her!
By Mitch Berg
What Gary Miller said:
We applaud Senator Coleman on voting NO against final cloture on the Senate amnesty bill.
He is to be commended on his sound judgement. Minnesota conservatives and select bloggers should be particularly proud of their yeoman’s work on this topic.
And the endless whack-a-mole game continues.

The wind is coming out of the North East this morning flash…
NOAA says it may be shifting out of the West later this afternoon so check back with Coleman later to see where he stands.

Yeah, I’m sure it would be a much better idea, from a conservative point of view, to have Franken as the Senator rather than Coleman. After all, why would one want the lesser of two evils?

I probably won’t vote to reelect Norm Coleman for other reasons but from what I can tell, I don’t have any big issues with his performance on the immigration bill. He authored an amendment to deal with the problem of “sanctuary cities” and made it clear from the press releases on his Senate website that he wanted stronger enforcement and border security measures in the bill otherwise he would oppose it. Given that the bill was a work in process and the complexities of it, I don’t see the harm in his reserving judgment.

Is it better to be wavering or unwavering in support of fraudulent legislation?

My only beef is if Republicans are allowed to make a new decision based on fresh information, why can’t a non Republican without being called a flip flopper.
We have seen what happens when someone stubbornly sticks to their guns when a flow of fresh information makes it clear that an adjustment in policy is necessary.

Coleman didn’t “make a new decision” – he said pretty much from the beginning that he would support the bill if the final version included stronger provisions on border security and enforcement. It didn’t, so he didn’t support it.
Really not that hard to figure out.

Silly, you meant Bill Clinton, didn’t you?

No Paul. I meant Norm Coleman. You know the guy… used to be an anti-war hippie…? Smoked a lot of pot…?

Doug-
Are you really saying that Bill Clinton was more principled than Coleman? Most lefties confess that Clinton was a populist whore.

You forgot “recovering Democrat.”
Your description could also be applied to Clinton with this revision:
Smoked a lot of pot but did not inhale…?
