The Cheshire President

By Mitch Berg

President Obama polishes a turd:

“We proved that this government — a government of the people and by the people — still works for the people,” the president said late Sunday, beginning his sales pitch from the White House one hour after Congress passed the sweeping measure.

It works “for the people” – 55% of whom oppose the bill.  That’s two percent more than his final vote total in ’08.

He’s like the Cheshire Cat; “”For the people” means what I say it means.  Ummm, no more and, aaaahm, let me be perfectly clear, no less!”

Angryclown had a little less sour grapes when the Yankees won the World Series last year.

Passed healthcare, prevented a depression, Kept Amurca Safe(TM-GOP).

Ryan for president, eh? Didn’t Obama already beat a guy named Ryan?

  2. Mitch Berg Says:

    prevented a depression,

10% unemployment which ain’t going anyplace for at least two years. Please sir, can I have more “prevention?”

    Kept Amurca Safe(TM-GOP).

He hasn’t captured Bin Laden yet. Fraud.

Didn’t Obama already beat a guy named Ryan?

    No. Geri Ryan did.

  3. angryclown Says:

You think Angryclown hasn’t learned anything from this blog? Unemployed = too lazy to work. Pffft.

Bin Laden? Can you kooks say “October surprise?” Sure you can!

You’re the Party of No and the best you have for 2012 is a Wisconsin House Rep. nobody’s heard of and the hope that Caribou Barbie doesn’t get a good enough offer for her talk show and decides to stay in politics? It’s gotta feel good.

  4. Mitch Berg Says:

Can you kooks say “October surprise?”

For what it’s worth, I could see Bill Frist rolling out Bin Laden this October…

  5. Mitch Berg Says:

    Party of No

    Aw, thanks!

Although I think “Party of Doctor No” would be fun, too.

  6. angryclown Says:

More like Mini Me these days, don’tcha think?

Just what is Obama putting in angryclown’s hookah?

Here’s a poll aggregator regarding the health care plan. More people have been opposed to it than in favor of it since July.

I’m pretty sure when even more people start dying because of rationing than were dying because “they couldn’t afford insurance”, those numbers will turn around.

I will have ZERO sympathy for anyone who favored this and suffers pain or the loss of a loved one because the victim was determined to be upside down in the ROI calculations.

  9. Dave Thul Says:

AC has to crow while he can, since this is likely the high water mark for progressive socialism in the first half of the 21st century.

But as far as polishing a turd, President Obama did have the guys over at Mythbusters to show him it could be done.

I hope I’m on your grandma’s death panel, Bill C. Angryclown will totally pull the plug on anybody in your gene pool.

  11. bubbasan Says:

Yes, government is working for the people, which explains why a hugely unpopular bill was passed before any Congress-critter ever had a chance to read the **** thing.

If this is “government working for the people,” I’ll take anarchy, thank you very much.

  12. golfdoc50 Says:

I’m not sure what makes me more angry: the details of the “Reform” bill or the disingenuous contempt expressed by the President and the gang at the sausage factory for the intelligence of the American people. People do realize that $1 trillion over ten years is the lowest amount to be spent on the latest entitlement program. Do the members of Congress who voted for this abortion really believe that the deficit will go down? If fraud and waste in Medicare could be reduced by government action, why hasn’t it happened before? And where is it written in the Constitution that Americans are required to have health insurance? Maybe it’s next to the clause requiring them to have homeowners, auto and life insurance. Can’t find that section? Me either.

  13. swiftee Says:

As AC demonstrates, while stinking Democrats take our new Obamanation closer to genuine socialism, they become commensurately bigger jagoffs.

  14. Kermit Says:

Do the members of Congress who voted for this abortion really believe that the deficit will go down?
Of course not. But they can lie to rubes like Clownie with a straight face because they’re not Republicans.

  15. Badda Says:

Let me correct both AC and Mitch… we’re the Party of Hell No, thank you very much.

  16. Bill C Says:

Too Late, AC. My last surviving grandparent passed away in 2007.

What is it with the liberal reverence for death anyway? Abortion, cheering for murderers (e.g. Mumia), euthanasia, assisted suicide, death panels, population control a’la Ehrlich and Malthus…

I say “Have a shred of personal integrity and intellectual honesty: Walk the walk, don’t just talk the talk.”

  17. Bill C Says:

People do realize that $1 trillion over ten years is the lowest amount to be spent on the latest entitlement program.

Exactly. When is the last time you heard of ANY government program that came in at or under budget?

  18. angryclown Says:

Yeah, Republicans have their fingers in their ears.

“Lalalala! I’m not listening! I’m not listening!”

  19. angryclown Says:

Hey Swiftee, you ignorant hillbilly, now that we have socialist health care, maybe you can get all those teeth replaced. And that hemorrhoid surgery. And a shot for the syphilis. And that vasectomy, like you promised your parole officer.

  20. Badda Says:

The government now can remove the hemorrhiod known as AC.

  21. Dog Gone Says:

The democrats have actually demonstated a better record of paying as they go than have the republicans.

I remember the criticisms of the GOP pet bill for drugs and how the claims that the republican numbers were hugely off turned out to be correct.

So, I’m waiting to see if the dems are just somewhat off, or republican-scale off on this. So far the CBO seems to be on their side.

If you look at the stats on bankruptcies, from medical expenses, and look at other financial crises in unemployment and foreclosures, where people lose their insurance because of unemployment, and lose their houses because of medical related financial complications……….this could have huge benefits considerably beyond those contemplated by the conservatives.

And, right or wrong, it’s not like the conservatives did anything to improve on the problems worth diddly, so I’m willing to see if this works or if it doesn’t. I have modest hopes of what it can accomplish at best rather than unrealistic expectations. If it turns out to be worse not better after a fair trial, then it can be repealed.

It’s not carved in stone alongside the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, but even carvings in stone can be recarved, so not exactly cause for the hysteria I’m seeing here.

  22. bubbasan Says:

The democrats have a better “paygo” record than republicans?

Um, DG, you seen proposed budgets for the next decade? Sorry, there’s this little bug called “reality” gumming up your thesis.

  23. Mitch Berg Says:

The democrats have actually demonstated a better record of paying as they go than have the republicans.

You left out the critical caveat; they do it by jacking up taxes. Inevitably.

And the Dems have a “better” record only if you carefully excise all spending before 1980, and/or fail to inflation-adjust it or weight it as a percentage of the GDP. The Tic-controlled Congress of the Ford and Carter years were utterly feckless at spending, and nearly destroyed the economy in the process. Obama promises to do the same.

As to Bush’s spending and deficits – please. Stop. Just stop. Conservatives opposed Bush on his spending tendencies in 2000 (I was a Forbes guy) and fought the Administration on it (unlike the Dems) for eight years.

Again, DG – your reliance on Democrat spin sites is showing. You need to broaden your informational horizons.

  24. Mr. D Says:

The democrats have actually demonstated a better record of paying as they go than have the republicans.

Uh, Dog? What’s the current budget deficit?

  25. Troy Says:

    Dog Gone said:

“I have modest hopes of what it can accomplish at best rather than unrealistic expectations.”

Really? Can we put it alongside other shining examples of government excellence: “Medicare”, “Social Security”, “VA”, and “Postal Service”?

    “It’s not carved in stone”

Riiiight. We can put it on and take it off like clothing. Just like the above. *eyeroll*

  26. Troy Says:

    Dog Gone said:

“it’s not like the conservatives did anything to improve on the problems worth diddly”

All the fault of “conservatives” again? This is getting to be a habit.

  27. Ben Says:

Does this mean we can start legitimately calling the lefties Nazi’s now? I mean before it was just slander but now I’m starting to think its an accurate description.

  28. Mitch Berg Says:

Well, to be fair to the Clown, he plays this more for cheep yuks than ideology.

Summary: He wears big, floppy jackboots.

  29. Mitch Berg Says:

Be sure to insist that all GOP candidates run on…

If we’ve learned one thing this past five years, it’s never, ever, ever, ever to let Tics pick our candidates or policies for us.

  30. K-Rod Says:

“If it turns out to be worse not better after a fair trial, then it can be repealed.”

Deegee wants see how this monstrosity turns out after 25 years before we try to repeal it; Liberal Fascism indeed.

Mitch, DG’s jackboots are more in style this year.

  31. swiftee Says:

And, right or wrong, it’s not like the conservatives did anything to improve on the problems worth diddly, so I’m willing to see if this works or if it doesn’t.

Yeah, well, that bastard landlord refused to paint my apartment, so I HAD NO CHOICE but to burn the MFer down…..so suck it, copper!

  32. Kermit Says:

Well, to be fair to the Clown, he plays this more for cheep yuks than ideology.
Henny Youngman contacted my psychic. He wants his schtick back.
