It’s The Methodists, Obviously

Joe Doakes, formerly of Como Park, emails:

After Paul Mirengoff was run off for being too liberal, Powerline added Bill Glahn who was at the federal courthouse for the arraignment of Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, the Somali kid who wanted to shoot up the Mall of America.

Bill says,”At the press conference, I asked two questions. 1) Was he born in America? Yes, and Mohamud is an American citizen. 2). Is it otherwise legal to purchase the model of AK-47 that Mohamud obtained? Also yes.”

Really, Bill, you don’t get it.  Of course it would be legal to purchase a semi-automatic AK-style rifle.  It would be legal to purchase a fully-automatic machine gun . . . IF you filled out the paperwork and passed the background check.  What made this purchase illegal was the kid didn’t fill out the paperwork nor pass the background check (and he’s too young).

Gun violence is not about the gun – it’s never about the gun – it’s about who has the gun.

I thought about sending Bill an email offering to coach him on firearms so he doesn’t sound like a moron in his next column; except that I’m already banned at Powerline.  Maybe you should make the offer, Mitch?

I’ll try to get on John and Paul’s calendar.

In a related matter, I figured that Michele Tafoya, Ron Schutz, Scott Jensen and possibly Lisa Demuth might have a shot in next month’s general election if they ran flawless campaigns, ignored the MNGOP, and got an October Surprise from the Feds.

Not sure that this is the one they need, but it might be the one they get.
