Thought Experiment

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes, formerly of Como Park, emails:

What SHOULD a person do in that situation?

I’m curious to know what SITD readers think the result would be in Minneapolis versus Greater Minnesota?  Charges or no?

Ahh, yeah – the inevitable “mostly” peaceful protest:

Joe asked for thoughts.

Mine:   This is one case for which Mary Moriarty could be stirred from her stupor.

Greater MN?   Depends on the county, but there’s a decent chance of actual justice.

Those miscreants, aka protesters, were illegally blocking the road. IMO, life’s tough. It’s even tougher if you’re stupid.

  2. Pig Bodine Says:

    prosecute protestors for:
    battery,
    assault,
    public nuisance,
    disturbing the peace,
    false imprisonment,
obstructing a public throughfare, for starters

In Minneapolis you would have to allow yourself to be dragged from your car and killed before you took action. But I fear even “out-state” if you defended yourself Keith Ellison would see to your prosecution of the local yokels declined.

I’ve never been able to understand why people should be allowed to “protest” any where/anytime they please without the regard to others rights. Why can’t a place(s) be set aside where they can protest without affecting others right of way and impeding commerce. Given such a place is made available then make it a law that if they choose to block my way I am allowed to turn them into a hood ornament!

I hope I never encounter these smelly freaks, because if I feel threatened or blocked in anyway, I am flooring it!

  6. bobby b Says:

    Blocked? Sit and wait.

But . . . threatened? Windows pounded, maybe smashed? Stomp on the gas. But take video.

I was in fear for my life. I remember seeing video of protesters dragging people from cars and stomping on them. A reasonable person would attempt to escape. If the protesters blocked the road, they made the choice to die on that hill.

  9. bikebubba Says:

But Golfdoc, you were foolish enough to go into Minneapolis. Didn’t you learn during carry permit training that your carry permit does not entitle you to shoot yourself out of a situation that you got yourself into? Same thing here. :^)
