Comforting The Comfortable, Afflicting The Afflicted

I’m old enough to remember when Rolling Stone was vividly counter-culture.

But only barely .

Read this piece on Amy Klobuchar.

Pressed for a message to viewers, the Democratic senator cited her own disenfranchised feelings since the inauguration, saying it’s important, “To not give up, to not look down [and] to not end up in The Container Store like I did for three weekends in a row cause I decided I wanted to bring order to my life.”

Klobuchar added that one interaction in particular at The Container Store made her feel less alone in her frustrations. “This constituent comes up and says, ‘I know why you’re here,’ the senator reccounted. “It’s cause you feel like everything’s out of control and you’re trying to control it.”

Klobuchar told a similar story in a recent podcast interview with The Daily Beast. As the publication notes, the four-term senator “was on the hunt for baskets to organize her coffee and tea collection—and, in retrospect, the broader sense of satisfaction that comes with things being the way they’re supposed to be.”

Am I the only one who thinks is reads like an ad for the Container store woven not-all-that-cleverly into a piece on Klobuchar’s (checks notes) stunnng courageous boss-lady journey over the past month?

Does she need to moisturize, with all the tongue-baths she gets from BIg Media?

I don’t know, but I have the urge to go to The Container Store after just reading this blog post!

Assuming it’s all a typo and we’re talking about containment, which would ideally involve a 55-gallon drum.

I think this is good place to point out that Jim Klobuchar is a regular punching bag of Joe Soucheray and Patrick Reusse on their Monday Night Sports Talk podcast. Their general rule about any interactions, especially quotes that Jim wrote about is that without taped proof, audio or better yet video, it never happened. Jim made up the type of anecdote that Amy claimed happened at the Container Store all the time.
As to Amy, I think she’s seeing her window of promotion out of the Senate closing quickly. She’d have to pick between a Presidential and a Senate run in 2028, and I think she stays put. That means that her next opportunity at POTUS would be 2032, but only if it’s against a Republican POTUS running for Reelection, and she’ll be in her early 70s. OTOH, a Democrat victory in 2028 could make her a fairly appealing option, politically speaking, for a Cabinet job, assuming Walz wins a third term in 2026. And I don’t expect an anti-DFL backlash in Minnesota in 2026. Amy’s convinced that she’s due for greater things than being Minnesota’s Senior Senator. And I don’t think she has to make up fake stories of her constituents that will tell her so.

I agree. If Trump can maintain his “WINNING!” thru the 2026 election and the rest of his term, I’d say there’s a good chance Vance can pick up the mantle like Bush Sr did in 1988 after Reagan’s economically great 2nd term. Whether he can maintain that to 2032 or has a downfall like Bush Sr did remains to be seen. Given Biden and Trump’s ages, I doubt any D candidate would have age as a downside. Given the chance to have to choose between Vance or a 70+ year old D, 100% Dems would vote for the geriatric D.
