Remembering What Pepperidge Farm Doesn’t

By Mitch Berg

Since we have an election coming up, let’s take a trip down memory lane.

Here’s Rep. Dave Pinto, progsplaining last session why DFL prosecutors won’t go after straw buyers – because the sentences are “too low”…

…before joining his entire caucus in voting down a bill that would have increased the sentence.

Pinto will get re-elected. He’s in a nauseatingly save DFL district.

But if you live somewhere in play?

Your mission is clear.

    On a related note, I am working in the back yard of another legislative anti gun zealot, Ron Latz, a couple of times per month. I don’t think that he’s up for election this cycle, but I have noticed that several businesses that had his and Tampon Tim’s signs in front of their buildings last cycle, are now sporting Trump signs. Perhaps more Minnesotans have awakened to the radicalism of the left. We can only hope!

    As thousands and thousands of people who’ve been prosecuted for DUI and disorderly conduct will tell you, the notion that the state does not prosecute anything short of a felony is scat from the male bovine. What Pinto is really saying is that prosecuting these gross misdemeanors will tick off the Democrats’ power base in some districts because their people will be disproportionately affected.

    If I still lived in 64B, I’d be reminding EVERYONE that that nauseating video was 1 month AFTER 3 first Responders were killed in Burnsville. And the idea that this Bill hadn’t had a Committee Hearing was laughable. The Bill was introduced EVERY year by the GOP. It was also “stolen” by the DFL, had a poison pill inserted into it so the GOP would vote against it, and then passed with urgency by the DFL. FFS!! The hypocrisy rolling off the DFL when it comes to guns.

    Rep. Pinto is also factually wrong in that speech. He claimed that County Attorney’s CANNOT charge people with misdemeanors. That’s wrong as a matter of law, and as a [bleeping] PROSECUTOR he should know that.

    All other petty misdemeanors, misdemeanors, or gross misdemeanors must be prosecuted by the county attorney of the county in which the alleged violation occurred.
    Sec. 484.87 MN Statutes
    —-
    Now, Prosecutor Pinto may try to get out of his factually inaccurate statement with the following 3 facts;
    1) The County Attorney the GOP have quoted on the issue for years is Hennepin County Attorney was Michael Freeman.
    2) This particular straw purchase was not made in Dakota County, therefore the Hennepin County Prosecutor could not prosecute this crime.
    3) Mike Freeman retired in January 2023 and this transfer took place January 2024, therefore Mike Freeman could not prosecute this crime.

    Pinto isn’t even splitting hairs with his statement. He’s just wrong.
