Around The MOB: Grumpy Old Men

What happens when you get a bunch of guys together who like to write, but don’t want the hassle of running their own blogs?

Besides the entire newsroom at Shot In The Dark, I mean?

You get a bunch of the Twin Cities’, and the MOB’s, growing crew of group blogs.  Including one of the newer additions, Grumpy Old Men, featuring a phalanx of people you know from other blogs and, indeed, the Shot In The Dark comment section; BikeBubba, the prolific Mr. D, K-Rod, Steve (formerly of the late lamented Gigglepundit. I think), and a few others whose names are new but whose styles look oddly familiar.

Sample? Sure.  Bubba captures the “grumpy old man” aethos quite nicely:

The happiness and very life of your daughters, or sons, probably depends on it, according to Charlotte Allen. Now she doesn’t come out and say it–her 12 page piece more or less only documents how many promiscuous (and predatory) men use social darwinism to justify their behavior–but the reality is that our children’s defense against the “meat market” mentality appears, if the testimony of the “male sluts” quoted in the article is indicative, to be the willingness of parents to actually raise their children. Overwhelmingly, the “pick up artist” is one who didn’t have a decent relationship with his dad. His victim–the same.

So polish and clean the old shotgun, and get ready to tell the kid with the jeans hanging halfway off his rear end to get off your porch until he’s wearing something that fits and has his shirt tucked in. Be a grumpy old man, and your kids will be the better for it.

Words to live by.

Make GOM a stop on your tour around the MOB!

  1. A minor housekeeping note, you haven’t updated the list of other blogs on SitD to reflect the changes such as the “late lamented gigglepundit” for awhile. Unless I’m mistaken, there are some no-longer-extant blogs still listed.

You’d also mentioned you’d link Penigma, as we have linked SitD some time ago, but I still can’t find it here anywhere.

  2. “Get off my lawn!”

    “I [club] carp!”

You know you’ve made the big time when Mitch gives you a shout out on SitD! 😉

  3. Thanks for the nod, Mitch. We have a lot of fun at G.O.M. and some really good people are contributors. And we have new material up pretty much every day.

DG, can I make a suggestion? Have Penigma join the MOB. The blogroll is automatic and most every MOB member has it on their respective sites. If you and Pen are looking to drive traffic, joining the MOB will do more good for you than publicly hectoring Mitch about adding you to the SiTD blogroll. Trust me on this — blogroll maintenance almost always takes a back seat to other activities for most bloggers. I’m lucky if I get to it more than a few times a year.

Joining the MOB is easy to do and if Flash can do it, there’s no reason why you and Pen can’t. Shoot a note to the Fraters guys and they’ll hook you up.

  4. I shot a note to Mitch about the MoB some time ago, thanks though for the invite Mr. D.

Given that Mitch and Pen and I go back a decade or two, that link between blogs, which Mitch assured me was in place some time ago as part of a reciprocal agreement, is a bit more personal. I thought perhaps I was looking for it in the wrong location on SitD.

I’m not concerned with ‘driving traffic for Penigma’; I rather like it as a smaller ‘home blog’ site. I have larger readerships on the other two blogs where I write.

  5. Actually, the link to Penigma has been live on this blog for quite some time. Ijust checked it; it’s under my “From The Left” section, and has been for months. That particular blogroll is visible on the main page, not from these invididual story pages (where the comment sections are).

I misunderstood – you want Penigma in the MOB? I can set that up – I just misunderstood originally.
