That might not be the result of this episode – at least, I but this past Tuesday Shivanthi Sathanandan, a Minnesota state DFL executive who advocated defunding the police gets the living crap beating out of her by carjackers.
And yep, she was one of those DFLers::
In her June 2020 post, Sathanandan thanked two Minneapolis City Council members for their “radical leadership” in working to “dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.”
“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me,” she wrote.
This past Tuesay, Sathanandan it was in her own yard when…:
“Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids. The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight,” DFL Second Vice Chair Shivanthi Sathanandan wrote in a public Facebook post, which included a picture of her face after the alleged assault.
“Look at my face in the picture. This is the face of a mother who just had the sh$t beaten out of her. A mother whose only thought was, ‘let me run far enough and fight hard enough so that my kids have a chance to get away.’ This is the face of a mother who just listened to her four-year-old daughter screaming non-stop, her seven-year-old son wailing for someone to come help because bad guys are murdering his Mama in the backyard, her neighbors screaming in outrage … all while being beaten with guns and kicks and fists,” she said.
It’s not Sathanandan’s job to add that if any of those neighbors had responded with the kind of force that could have ended the assault, Mary Moriarty would likely have prosecuted them far more harshly than the carjackers themselves.
But unlike some previous victms, who’ve blamed “the system” and themselves, Sathanandan reaches a rational conclusion:
“And I have rage. These men knew what they were doing. I have NO DOUBT they have done this before. Yet they are still on OUR STREETS. Killing mothers. Giving babies psychological trauma that a lifetime of therapy cannot erase. With no hesitation and no remorse,” she said.
“We need to get illegal [!!! – Ed.] guns off of our streets, catch these young people who are running wild creating chaos across our city and HOLD THEM IN CUSTODY AND PROSECUTE THEM,” she said. “Look at my face. REMEMBER ME when you are thinking about supporting letting juveniles and young people out of custody to roam our streets instead of HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.”

It’s natural – and in some cases appropriate, and in Sathanandan’s case documentably true. The DFL does in fact own the situation. And I do pile schadenfreud on the
But I’m going to urge people to take the opportunity to see the opportunity, here. Sathanandan may never become a law-and order conservative – but Minneapolis got where it is incrementally, and any improvement will be at least as incremental.
And if you’re so inclined, pray for those kids. The fruits of the politics of the parents shouldn’t be visited on the kids.
Much less their neighbors.
UPDATE. There is speculation that this is staged. Some are make a plausible case. The blood doesn’t look like any head laceration usually looks (and believe me, I’ve had a few), and she takes a pretty composed-looking photo for someone with a broken leg.
OTOH: the hoax, if it is one, benefits conservatives, and even the Frey administration, against whom the Minneapolis DFL is mustering money and votes.
Not saying that’s not plausible – but why?
What can we do? It’s those damned Methodists from Hamline University, White kids running amok, no regard for other people or property, reveling in their White Privilege, protected from consequences by the DFL-connected parents.
I mean, it is, right? That’s who always gets blamed for all of society’s ills. I don’t see how we can expect better behavior from them. Where would they learn it?

If I fished my AR out of the lake where it resides after that tragic canoe accident, and leaned over the fence threatening to shoot her attackers unless they left, would the victim be grateful or outraged that I brandished an Ugly Black Rifle in her defense? Can’t decide which way to bet.
Not sure I believe this either, because crime always happens to other people and Sathanandan is not one of “those” people.
I didn’t see any apologies for that previously held position regarding the police. I think the accusations of the image being staged are valid. Alpha News stated there was a police report. My take is that we won’t be able to speculate on what happened or where this is going until some metro area DFL big wigs respond. Mpls chief of police for a start. Frey.
I admit, it’s a weird camera angle. Looks as if she’s standing on that broken leg but doesn’t seem to hurt at all.
What possible reason could anyone have for faking the claim? Just to drum up support to disarm Hamline students? Maybe.

My thought regarding the picture was that the first thing I noticed was that her makeup is otherwise perfect, and the “blood” on her face doesn’t form globs like when I cut myself shaving, and real blood generally turns very dark soon after it leaves the body as it dries. So count me skeptical as well. Glad she’s coming to a decent conclusion, but I’m thinking there may be a bit of attention-seeking there, too.
She can prove it isn’t staged by showing her face in a day or two, after the blood has been cleaned up, and the bruising becomes darker.
I agree that the photo I saw looked a bit fishy. She doesn’t look like someone who was just beat up and traumatized…she looks like someone posing for an Instabookxtok selfie.
But I also don’t see the point in a hoax. The only even half-way plausible thing I can think of is that she’s changed her mind and decided to become a “law and order” supporter, but needed an excuse to deflect the inevitable cries of hypocrisy.
Otherwise, what’s the gain for a hoax? It’s not like she’s claiming they dumped bleach on her head and yelled “this is MAGA country” or anything. What’s the benefit to her or her party?

She claimed there were witnesses, her kids and neighbors. Hoaxes fall apart pretty fast when more than one person has to uphold the narrative.
It reminds me of why I am highly skeptical of any claims of conspiracy.

I, for one, did not state the event, that of being assaulted, was a hoax or fake. As I stated, there is a police report. And neighbors. And paramedics. Etc, etc.
My question is why use an image that looks so obviously faked. It causes the points she is trying to make to look suspicious. Perhaps there’s a good reason. I dunno.

Further, she allegedly called Man Baby Mom Jeans Frey’s office to complain about slow response by the police, yet praised them?
I suspect that she got a call from her betters in the party, telling her to dial it back.

It’s so odd (and totally ironic) that Democrats are seething when confronted by the results of their own policies.
Many Chicago residents are angry because of the influx of illegals into the “sanctuary city”. I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding. I mean, seeing as how the border is closed and all.
She wants to see these criminals “held accountable”? How does she expect that to happen if there are no police around to go after them, and no DA willing to prosecute them “to the fullest extent of the law”? She has learned nothing, indicating an IQ near zero. Typical DFLer.

Reader15 gets this about right. I can go either way on what I noticed, but bruises showing up will give a better indication. Again, glad she’s coming to the right conclusion, but I’m skeptical. Also a reason for skepticism is the neighbor’s testimony that guns were used, but she was beaten? That doesn’t make sense to me, either.

One other thought; as the recipient of a few black eyes in my lifetime, I seem to remember that while the blackness of the bruise didn’t show up immediately, the swelling did. So count me even more skeptical.
Also worth noting is that the neighbor’s soap box was that “illegal guns” need to be controlled, though there is otherwise no clear indication that guns were used. At least I’d guess that if a criminal came at me armed, there would be little opportunity for him to beat me, because I’d give him what he wanted.
Someone REALLY needs to get another picture of her soon enough so that potential bruising wouldn’t be able to heal.
