The only semi-proposal mentioned is to turn empty retail & office spaces in Minneapolis into residences & maybe this would lower housing costs in Minneapolis. Alas, converting retail & office space into living space will not be cheap or easy.
The author, Jennifer Brooks, says “Social distancing during the influenza pandemic of 1918 set off a century-long push into the suburbs.”
This is simply false. The suburbs do not owe their existence to “social distancing during the influenza epidemic of 1918.” It is bizarre that any educated person would write this.

Leftists hate the suburbs. For decades the message was that the evil oil companies worked with the evil car companies to shutdown urban street car lines & replace them highways going to the suburbs to sell more gas & cars. This was the plot of Who Shot Roger Rabbit? IIRC.
A lot of Minneapolis housing stocks dates from the 20s. Do those houses & apartment blocks look as though they were built with “social distancing” in mind? How about those teensy-tiny houses built on small lots in the inner ring suburbs after WW2?

I actually live in one of the “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” homes built to promote the 1948 movie about moving to the suburbs. The movie was made after the novel it was based on sold over a million copies in 1946. Hmmm…1946…let me think about what was happening about that time.

MN just had an election, it is getting the LE approach approved by its voters.
The fallout from George Floyd was metro & state politicians taking the side of the anti law enforcement forces, in 2022 pro LE candidates were defeated in DFL primaries, and the winner went on to defeat pro LE Republican candidates.

A suburban Chicago bakery that was targeted after announcing plans to host a family-friendly drag brunch may now close due to what the bakery’s owner described as “horrific harassment that no business should endure.”
UpRising Bakery and Cafe in Lake in the Hills said it plans to close on March 31 if it cannot make up for losses it has experienced since it became the center of controversy in July 2022.
“Closing our doors is the direct result of the horrific attacks, endless harassment, and unrelenting negative misinformation about our establishment in the last eight months,” owner Corinna Sac said in a statement.
UpRising Bakery and Cafe first made headlines last summer when the bakery scheduled a drag show brunch that was set to be for all ages. In what would eventually become part of a national trend, the bakery was quickly targeted with “hateful comments and fake negative reviews” and, later, threats of violence and vandalism.
The night before the planned event, the bakery’s windows were broken and walls were defaced with spray paint, forcing the cancelation of the performance.
