  1. Wasn’t he the guy who said “I hope I die before I get old”?

The world would be a better place if hippy boomers had followed up on their vow. They soiled 3 succeeding generations in their stupid, leftist shit, and quite likely are responsible for the coming disintegration of the USA.

  2. He probably gets monthly infusions of fetal stem cells from aborted children..

  3. why did all these boomer era musicians survive their drugs fueled era despite taking enough drugs to take down a bull elephant yet the lead singer of my favorite band (Linkin Park) offs himself before 50? I’ll never see a new album or tour from them as long as I live but these guys still churning out records after they start collecting social security . Sorry just a little bitter.

Daltrey sang it, but Townsend wrote it. When he was 20. And both have been acknolwledging the irony for about 50 years.

if hippy boomers had followed up on their vow

Perhaps, but the The Who were never “hippies”. They literally kicked Abby Hoffman off the stage at Woodstock. Their lack of Haight Ashbury vibe was one of the things that I liked about ’em, even as a feckless teenage Democrat (but non-hippie).

They didn’t all survive. Half of The Who died before they were 55. The other half, like Keith Richards, Ozzie Osborne and Shane MacGowan, are marvels of medical science.

But – Daltrey was, by 60s rock star status, famously (and relatively) abstemious.

And Townsend’s been clean and sober for 40 years now.

  7. Ah, generational astrology. Lemme see here… 2023 – 79… carry the one and what? 1944. That’s during the war, right? Doesn’t that make him Not-a-Boomer because he was born before the official end of the war. Like the Beatles (Lennon was almost pre-war). Oh, yeah, and he’s English and the UK didn’t have a post-war Baby Boom… the Baby Boom phenomenon was pretty much an American thing.

ACDC is a (young) Boomer band. They lost a lead singer to alcohol and probably the guitarist/leader as well, but what’s interesting is that crazy little lead guitarist, Angus, is and always has been a teetotaler.

  8. Yea, John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, drowned in a pool after drinking several screwdrivers or, as their spokesman said at the time, vodka and orange.

“Captain Walker didn’t come home, his unborn child will never know him…”

  10. hippy boomers

One of the hippiest of all the SanFran hippy Summer-Of-Love bands was Jefferson Airplane. Born either during the war or even before (Grace Slick was born in 1939). That would be solidly in the Silent Generation – like my parents.

  11. boss, I was just reading up to make sure and it was more than a few screwdrivers – 40 shots of vodka – 1.5l! Geez, the man could drink. Probably had some russian blood in him.

  12. jpa.
Yea. 40 shots has to be close to or right at a 750ml bottle. He drank them over a 12 hour period, allegedly during a recording session.

  13. nope, not recording, practice for ’80 tour. It is hilarious how information gets diluted depending on the source. BTW, I did not do any more research, nor contacted my good buds Page and Plant to see what really happened, LOL. You could be wright and I am wrong.

  14. “The Who were never “hippies”. They literally kicked Abby Hoffman off the stage at Woodstock.”

Townsend booted Hoffman because he didn’t like being upstaged. After Hoffman left, Townsend said “I can dig it”.

Fuck them. I wish the boomers had died before they got old.
