It Seems Appropriate

This bit, from Thomas Sowell, seems appropriate…:

…in light of Big Media’s meltdown over a number of Twitter suspending the accounts of a number of “journalists” who were, by any rational definition, doxxing Elon Musk.

And after two years of social media canceling those who said there are two genders, that masks are pointless, and even writing satire (the Babylon Bee just got reinstated recently)…

suddenly we’re looking at a crisis!

But don’t you dare claim that the media only cares about its own civil rights.

The funniest part? Journos who didn’t get suspended, trying to grab their own little slice of victimhood:

There’s a reason people trust used car salesmen more than journos these days.

  1. If making a meme offer of $54.20 for a stock, and having to eat a massive (and increasing) loss due to your own arrogance doesn’t teach some humility, I’m not sure what will. Possibly not even bankruptcy, as I’m sure financial misfortune will be blamed on someone else.

Musk is already blaming the Fed for deciding to increase interest rates. Of course, he doesn’t mention the vast leverage that he decided to take on as part of the acquisition.

  2. Here is what Emery wrote about rthe Musk-Twitter deal back in April:
Emery on April 15, 2022 at 11:06 am said:
Pump n dump — Musk doesn’t have the cash to follow through on this. When it’s rejected he will sell the stake he bought on margin for a fat cash profit.
    . . .

So Emery’s record of failed predictions continues apace.
Whenever Emery advises you to sell — buy, buy, buy!

  3. Elon is already the most powerful man in the world, he’s managed to dislodge Trump from liberals heads.

Why not try something new, just for fun?

Elon should announce he’s running for president as an African American, just like Obama.

  4. I don’t even like Elon. He has made his money in industries that are highly regulated (financial services) and/or heavily subsidized by the government (space flight/ electric cars). Succeeding in these businesses is much more about gaming the system than it is about providing value to customers.

Jack Dorsey had some interesting things to say about why his vision for Twitter failed & how it might be improved. I don’t agree with it all, especially his suggestion to use algorithmic moderation. Biases can be built into algorithms, consciously and unconsciously, and the assumption is that the algorithm will not be dealing with schemes (or AI) designed to defeat it.

There’s a lot of conversation around the #TwitterFiles. Here’s my take, and thoughts on how to fix the issues identified.
I’ll start with the principles I’ve come to believe…based on everything I’ve learned and experienced through my past actions as a Twitter co-founder and lead:

Social media must be resilient to corporate and government control.
Only the original author may remove content they produce.
Moderation is best implemented by algorithmic choice.

The Twitter when I led it and the Twitter of today do not meet any of these principles. This is my fault alone, as I completely gave up pushing for them when an activist entered our stock in 2020. I no longer had hope of achieving any of it as a public company with no defense mechanisms (lack of dual-class shares being a key one). I planned my exit at that moment knowing I was no longer right for the company.
The biggest mistake I made was continuing to invest in building tools for us to manage the public conversation, versus building tools for the people using Twitter to easily manage it for themselves. This burdened the company with too much power, and opened us to significant outside pressure (such as advertising budgets). I generally think companies have become far too powerful, and that became completely clear to me with our suspension of Trump’s account. As I’ve said before, we did the right thing for the public company business at the time, but the wrong thing for the internet and society. Much more about this here:

  5. HAHAH. You pathetic losers you! Yeah you JOURNOS you are nothing of the sort. Lying scum.

  6. rAT! After you conquered teh BiRKiE, which of the plethora of vibrant, bustling haute cuisine venues so you usually celebrate your victory in?

There has been no response from the St. Paul White leadership group at this time…

  8. Whoever put this document together has no business being in the government of a free people.
It is a license to lie to the American people and silence political opposition. These definitions aren’t real. There is no way of knowing the intent of people expressing an opinion.
    “Malinformation” is true but false?
    What is MDM?
Misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation make up what CISA defines as “information activities”. When this type of content is released by foreign actors, it can be referred to as foreign influence. Definitions for each are below.
Misinformation is false, but not created or shared with the intention of causing harm.
Disinformation is deliberately created to mislead, harm, or manipulate a person, social group, organization, or country.
Malinformation is based on fact, but used out of context to mislead, harm, or manipulate.
Foreign and domestic threat actors use MDM campaigns to cause chaos, confusion, and division. These malign actors are seeking to interfere with and undermine our democratic institutions and national cohesiveness. The resources provided at the bottom of this page provide examples and more information about MDM activities.

  9. Elon Musk clashes with ‘Twitter Files’ journo Bari Weiss after she criticizes journalist suspensions
Weiss feared Musk’s new Twitter ‘regime’ was ‘governed by its own whims and biases’
    https://www.foxnews.com/media/elon-musk-clashes-with-twitter-files-journo-bari-weiss-after-she-criticizes-journalist-suspensions

Bari Weiss criticizes the ban on journalists. As a result, Musk unfollows her and accuses her of “virtue signaling” and wanting to keep “one foot in both worlds.”

For a strongman there’s only ever one point of view. You either agree completely and always — or you are shunned.

  10. ⬆️ Twitter is similar to a kind of social experiment about the installation of an arbitrary autocracy, showing how a bunch of fanboys like Woolly and Swift cheer and approve it.

  11. ^^ Frothing madness. So much hate for people Emery will never meet, and a social media platform no one is forcing him to use.

  12. It’s lonely in his refrigerator box, UMMP. Nothing else to do until the shelter opens for breakfast.

  13. liberals dont understand why conservatives despise them
conservatives despise them because they are entitled whiners
if conservatives say we don’t think stacy abrams won the election
liberals claim the comment is a violent attack on black women
and blame us for every bad thing that happens to any black woman
because of the stochastic racism hidden in our comment
which is bullshit because we have not put anybody in actual harm
liberal use that claim as a mechanism to shut down legitimate debate

journalists are despised for precisely the same reason
they regularly doxx conservatives at home and at work
which threatens their livlihood and in elons sons case physical safety
then complain when they put people in actual harm and get banned for it
which conservatives use to prevent people from being harmed

when the revolution comes there will be a great shoving match
to see who gets stood up against the wall first
since so many so richly deserve it

  14. Elon Musk’s Twitter Poll Shows Users Want Him to Step Down as CEO
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musks-twitter-poll-shows-users-want-him-to-step-down-11671449123

So much “hate” from Twitter users (ht—Woolly) towards Musk.

Starting to feel like Morgan Stanley, Larry Ellison, et al have read Elon the Riot Act about his current role.

I propose Trump to be the new CEO of Twitter.
He’ll be the best Twitter CEO ever, “better than Lincoln, better than Washington.” He has been running Truth Social, so he’s got relevant experience. 🤔

  15. what a bunch of morons

the poll was clearly a test to see how many haters and bots remained on twitter

now that musk knows who they are it’ll be simple to ban those accounts and make twitter useful for everybody who remains

cant believe they fell for it

  16. ^ I read somewhere that Elon probably has a good idea who he wants to take over and it may well be someone who fits the admonition, be careful you know what it is you’re asking for.

  17. I’ve been on the record for a long time that the problem with ALL social media is moderation.
I haven’t had a usenet account for about a decade, but back in the day the unmoderated newsgroups were running spam messages to real content about 100:1. Moderated newsgroups were better, but there were ALWAYS fights over the moderation scheme.

  18. The key problem with moderating a large social media site is that you can’t moderate via a ruleset (aka algorithmically). I guess you could do some moderation that way by looking at keywords and an AI to filter pr0n images, but the system is too dynamic to only depend on ruleset moderation.
The Twitter files showed us how the ruleset, theoretically stated in Twitter’s TOS, was constantly being altered by the moderators in ways that are not transparent. Bad actors are positively rewarded for finding workarounds.

  19. Bigman – when the revolution comes, the liberals and journalists will be shoving each other to determine #’s 2 and 3 against the wall. It’s long been established that the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Company is first up against the wall.

  20. one of the hallmarks of liberals is lack of critical thinking ability
they treat any superficial resemblance as equivalence
consider this illustration (from William F. Buckley, Jr, I think):
a little old lady is standing on a street corner waiting for the light to change
a man behind her pushes her off the curb, into the path of the oncoming bus
a second man leaps in front of the bus, pushing the lady to safety, at great risk
a conservative says the second man is a hero, the first a villain
a liberal says the two men are equally bad
both pushing around a little old lady

and thus we get the e-fool unable to distinguish between sharing advertising and doxxing because they’re both just sharing information about you

  21. ⬆️ For those of us who don’t use Twitter or pay too much attention to it, Twitter isn’t a town square, a parallel reality, or a virtual world. For the majority of us, Twitter is a public bathroom wall where people snipe at each other in 280-character increments. If Twitter were to disappear would we be worse off? Journalists would have a harder time obtaining quotes from celebrities and politicians, but otherwise the thing wouldn’t be particularly missed.
