Slipped

If I were on the Nobel Committee, this simple meme would be my nomination for the Nobel Prize for Literature this year:

It’s simple, and it sums up the modern culture war to a “T”.

We warned you that if marriage got redefined to something other than “a guy and a gal” to “two people getting together to enjoy the legal benefits of a contractual status”, there was literally no logical or moral reason that couldn’t be extended to two or more people – or not necessarily people at all”.

“That’s never gonna happen, and you’re paranoid and weird”, they said.

Of course we were right:

But remember – nobody’s coming for your guns, there’s no such thing as election fraud, there’s no way January 6 was a shake and bake…

  1. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/freddie-deboer-law-of-merited-impossibility/

The reader says that Freddie’s account is an example of my Law of
Merited Impossibility, which states: “It will never happen, and when
it does, you bigots will deserve it.”

About a decade ago, I came up with the Law of Merited Impossibility as
an aid to understanding why it is that conservatives who took liberals
at their word — specifically on the gay marriage issue — were being
played for patsies. The liberals would assure us that this radical
thing they were calling for would never be used to persecute or
marginalize conservatives … and when gullible conservatives and
moderates assented to it, the victorious liberals would soon turn on
them, saying it’s a matter of justice that bigots be suppressed.

  2. I think that this one backfires spectacularly on the polyamorous. Fox had a series for a while by someone who claimed to be first heterosexual, then bisexual polyamorous, then homosexual. The woman left behind a nasty trail of broken relationships.

Now mix that with family court when someone realizes they can take 1/n-th of the richest lover’s money when they divorce him. Lawyers will love that one.

  3. It’s going to happen, because the goal is outrage and destabilization. They’re running out of shit to do.

Next up: porno euthanasia snuff films.

  5. JPA: just the latest in a series of racial hoaxes. Before that it was the Duke volleyball player who heard what several thousand others in the gym couldn’t hear, didn’t get picked up on audio or video. Nevertheless, the media ran with it until the story got memory-holed.

  6. Also speaking of slippery slopes: I learned via Ann Althouse that the comedienne Judy Tanuta has passed away. I remembered the name from the late 80s and early 90s but couldn’t recall her act.
Here it is, in all its glory: https://youtu.be/qKXf65k5ulo
Tanuta mercilessly mocks East Indians and homosexuals. This was standard late night fare thirty years ago. We lost the right to free speech a little at a time, until Obama when the oppression slipped into high gear, the election of Trump accelerated the closing of the doors of discourse further, and now, post covid, there is just a crack of light visible.
We went from Judy Tanuta on late night to the media banning the free expression of the president of the United States in just thirty years.
