Is There A Worse Governor Anywhere In America…

…than Gretchen Whitmer?

Exhibit Z-462: Michigan, which was moving the right way on laws limiting predatory civil forfeiture (cops and prosecutors glomming onto property and cash due to allegations of drug crimes) is sliding rapidly backward, as Whitmer signed a “tougher” law, enabling more robbery, easier:

Michigan previously required a criminal conviction prior to completion of forfeitures involving cash or other property worth $50,000 or less. A pair of bills that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed into law on May 26 lowered that ceiling to $20,000 for assets seized at airports. “Drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Michigan,” declared state Rep. Graham Filler (R–DeWitt), who sponsored one of the bills. “The men and women who keep our airports secure need to have the proper authority to keep drugs and drug money out of our state—and this reform gives them the tools they need.” Rep. Alex Garza (D–Taylor) claimed his related bill made Michigan “a safer place,” because “drug traffickers will now think twice before trying to profit off the lives of our residents.”

Forget AOC. Conservatives need to make Il Duchesse [1] the poster child for progressive overreach in 2024.

[1] I know – the feminine definite article in Italian is “La”, not “Il”. But it it makes a better Mussolini comparison. And what are you, un biologo, anyway?

  1. Waittaminute. What am I missing here? She signed a bill voted in by MI legislators; that or one of which was sponsored by a Republican. Which means, I assume, it was voted for by some Republicans. Perhaps many or all. And all before it even got to her desk.

Besides that, doesn’t civil forfeiture take place whenever “the men and women who keep our airports secure” feel like it. It’s then up to the accused their to get (a lawyer and take the government to court to) their own money back? Who cares if it’s 50k or 20k?

And then the Mussolini comparison? With Italian grammar? Geez, I think this all sounded better in your head than after it was written out.

That said, however, in the process of trying to find an image of the bimbo that would be similar to that of Il Duce giving a speech from a balcony, I was pleasantly reminded just how stacked and actually kinda good looking she is. For that I thank you.

  2. What jdm said, at least where the Republican politician quoted in the article is concerned. Whitmer is all kinds of awful, but awful is a decidedly bipartisan thing in Michigan. Where I disagree — Whitmer is ugly to the core.

  3. Read her bio, Whitmer is a political grifter from a family of political grifters.
The northern tier of Midwestern states should be politically dominated by farmers and mechanics. That doesn’t mean “conservative,” there is a long tradition of leftish, anti-corporate “prairie populism” in the north.
But instead these states are run by an elite cabal of lawyers, public employee unions, and cosmopolitan political activists who don’t give a damn about workers & farmers.

  4. Anything that enhances a cop, or DA’s ability to take stuff is inherently bad. Remember the Metro Gang Task Force?

This all started with Bill Clinton, who pioneered the zero tolerance policy that allows for forfeiture of property that was even obliquity connected with accused criminal acts.

  5. Yea, I wonder where all of the cash and confiscated drugs end up? There have been stories about crooked cops selling those drugs and skimming some of the cash off the top before it’s logged as “evidence”. I know that some of the cars, boats, TVs, etc. are occasionally auctioned off, because a friend of mine scored a pretty cool, customized F250 from an auction in Oklahoma.

  6. Whitmer is ugly to the core

Well, in the ugly to the core world series, she’s got nothing on Rashida.

Also I would mention that it’s usually considered a great insult for a non-lefty to appreciate the good looks of a proggie (and she *is* stacked, you can’t deny it). I don’t know if she’s in Kamala’s class, but I’m pretty sure that given the number of male dweebs that end up in politics, she’s used those things to her benefit more than once.

  7. Every state is different, BH. But in general, the cops get to skim 30% off the profits from their rip-offs. There have also been instances where luxury sports cars like Lambo’s & Vette’s have ended up in a PD’s vehicle inventory.

Keep in mind, even if a guy is exonerated of any crime, he still has to petition the court to get his property back, and the cops are not liable for any damage that has occurred during the take, or during storage.

    It’s all bullshit.

  8. I wonder where all of the cash and confiscated drugs end up

What Blade said. Anyone criticizing changes to civil forfeiture law which doesn’t involve repeal, doesn’t understand how truly awful this law is. Using a change that makes it easier to use as a opportunity to dust off the Mussolini analogy while FBI agents are sending SWAT teams out to arrest anti-abortion protesters has a strange set of priorities.

  9. Also I would mention that it’s usually considered a great insult for a non-lefty to appreciate the good looks of a proggie (and she *is* stacked, you can’t deny it). Can’t get past the death stare, but it’s a big ol’ world and YMMV.

  10. ^^ Good lord, can any Italians explain why their politics is so deeply unserious? I mean I know the US voted for Trump but a coalition of neofascists and the revived corpse of Berlusconi is really giving Americans a run for their money.

  11. So, Emery, has Meloni threatened to invade Ethiopia or Albania to revive an Italian/Roman “ring around the Mediterranean”? Has she promised to make the trains run on time?

Or is she simply stating views that were pretty much universal among liberals 20-30 years back? I’m thinking the latter.

  12. ^^ Anyway, in a few months the government will fall because the population realizes that a neofascist, an egocentric opportunist, and a narcissistic old man won’t be able to deliver on their promises to lower inflation and fix the energy crisis. Once the bubble bursts, Berlusconi and maybe even Salvini will back-off from their delusive belief that they can keep Meloni in rein, and stop backing her.

  13. Regarding Whitmer:
MBerg fails to mention another important factor in the general election this year. Michigan residents have succeeded in placing a proposal on the ballot to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. The proposal was submitted with more than 725,000 valid signatures, by far the most of any ballot initiative in Michigan history. In addition there will also be a ballot proposal to amend the state constitution to protect voting rights from all the Republican shenanigans.

That, plus the independent redistricting committee whose maps take effect this year, provide a glimmer of hope among the deep dysfunction of the GOP in this state.

  14. Ha! Seriously, Emery?! GOP dysfunction?
Like Murderapolis, Detroit and many Michigan cities, have been run by DemoCommies for the last 50 years. They were installed, due primarily by the UAW leadership brainwashing their members. The loss of thousands of union jobs, didn’t teach them any lessons, because over the past 15 years, Detroit has been decimated by urban blight and the typical fiscal ignorance of DemoCommies, which was ignored by the media. But hey, numb nuts; keep smoking your crack pipe.

  15. Re: Meloni
When politicians don’t deliver tangible results for regular people, eventually demagogues and populists become appealing alternatives, no matter how extreme we may think they are. A lesson for our own country, even if the parallels with Italy end there. If American liberals don’t enforce immigration policies, people will elect those who would enforce border laws regardless of their politics.

  16. Try answering the question, Emery. Precisely what tells us that Ms. Meloni is a new heir to Mussolini, other than views that were de rigeur among even liberals just 20 years back?

  17. rAT Emery is, as usual, just re-posting the papspew of the day from nitwit HQ. The “Fascist/Mussolini meme is making it’s way through the vacuum of the leftist hivemind.

    From NPR:

“Meloni is poised to take office almost exactly 100 years after Benito Mussolini took power in Rome. She insists his ideology is in the past. Many Italians and Europeans hope she’ll stick to her word.”

    LOL…She’s a Fascist Light Worker, y’all!

  18. A António Salazar style Fascist regime in Italy would be wonderful. It would certainly benefit the Italian people, and would be a beacon of hope for people behind the rainbow curtain of leftist dictatorships now in control of the West.

  19. We’ve slid so far to the left, drastic measures are called for to swing the pendulum towards the middle.

  20. The BBC

“Although she has worked hard to soften her image, emphasising her support for Ukraine and diluting anti-EU rhetoric, she leads a party rooted in a post-war movement that rose out of dictator Benito Mussolini’s fascists.”

    The degenerates are freaking OUT!

    🤣🤣🤣😍😍😍🥰

  21. “Earlier this year she outlined her priorities in a raucous speech to Spain’s far-right Vox party: “Yes to the natural family, no to the LGBT lobby, yes to sexual identity, no to gender ideology… no to Islamist violence, yes to secure borders, no to mass migration… no to big international finance… no to the bureaucrats of Brussels!”

    Hahahahahahahahaahaaaaaaa!

  22. “I think we will see more restrictions on civil rights and policies on LGBT and immigrants.”

    Hahahaha! #winning

  23. Reuters:

“The result is the latest success for the right in Europe after a breakthrough for the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats in an election this month and advances made by the National Rally in France in June.”

    Let the helicopters fly!

  24. If I live to see a global purge of degenerate leftists, I will die a happy man.

If the purge is conducted with extreme prejudice, my coffin will require a cupola midway.

  25. From the miserable Strib:

“Russia on Monday granted citizenship to former American intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who fled prosecution after he revealed highly classified U.S. surveillance programs to capture communications and data from around the world.”

Notice, they omit to mention the domestic spying that was the whole motivation behind his leak.

    These people must be….quieted.

  26. Also from the miserable Strib:

“A party with neo-fascist roots won the most votes in Italy’s national election, setting the stage Monday for talks to form the country’s first far right-led government since World War II, with Giorgia Meloni at the helm as Italy’s first female premier.”

    Hahahahahahaahaaaa! Excellent!

  27. Perhaps Biden can instruct Meloni on how to persecute her political enemies and censor the Italian press, and Meloni can return the favor by helping Biden get his beloved choo-choo’s to run on time?

  28. Whitmer locked Michiganders in their homes, allowing them out only to riot in favor of her preferred policies. Whitmer actually declared her solidarity with the George Floyd “protesters.” Mussolini had his Black Shirts, Whitmer had her BLM “activists.”
Here is a list of the Whitmer-approved riots in 2020:

If it looks like fascism, and walks like fascism, then it is fascism.
