Game Day

In addition to a number of primaries that may or may not be referenda on Donald Trump, depending on who you ask (more tomorrow, hopefully), today is the first of four drama-clogged elections in Minnesota’s First Congressional District.

As the Strib notes, there are twenty candidates in the running. The DFL (8 candidates) and GOP (10) ones are vying for a significant shot on the ballot in a special election coming up on August 9.

You can fairly feel the media, practically begging for a strong performance by Jennifer Carnahan, widow of the late Rep. Hagedorn and controversial former state GOP chair. It’d guarantee a couple months of soap-opera drama before a DFL victory – a win-win for the DFL and media (pardon the redundancy). Matt Benda has the money; State reps Jeremy Munson and (to a lesser extent) Nils Pierson have the political name recognition.

Tomorrow’s going to be a fun one.

  1. Don’t know if you guys care, but I am tickled pink the name Bush had been killed and buried and hopefully will never again be seen in American politics.

  2. Georgia Republicans rebuke Trump — again…

Trump looks exceptionally weak right now.

Kemp’s and Raffensberger’s win = green shoots after a diabolical winter in the world of American Conservatism.

  3. ^ but Walker won big in GA and he received an endorsement from Trump. Shoot, he even got a hug. And MTG won big as well and she received an endorsement from Trump.

I look forward to your explanation.

  4. Looks to me the lunatics might be struggling a bit to take full control of the asylum.

Does Trump really extend his support to incumbents or does he jump on the wagon he thinks will benefit his own interests.
    Me thinks the latter…

  5. ^ Congratulations to Mr Raffensperger who has carried out his duties as State Secretary honestly. Perhaps Kemp and Raffensberger “stole” the election.

Herschel Walker? He was asked point blank about the school shooting yesterday, his first question after winning, and this what he said on TV, “What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” Good grief. CTE is real.

Walker has been a disaster even in right wing media interviews. I certainly hope that they can force Walker into a debate with Warnock. See if the GOP will allow it. That would be pretty eye opening.

  6. So you still can’t back up your claim that “Trump looks exceptionally weak right now”. It’s OK, I didn’t expect you’d be able to anyway but I was curious just how you’d wiggle around. You decided on change the subject. Well done.

  7. ^ I think it’s fair to say Georgia voters rejected Trump’s BS regarding his stolen election nonsense.

It still amazes me how Raffensperger had the presence of mind to do that recording of Trump’s phone call to him demanding that he find 11,787 votes. Even though Raffensperger’s a practical person, an engineer, etc., turning on that tape recorder while being threatened and berated by the president of the United States was a sensible decision.

  8. Georgia has open primaries. The reprobates had no big issues to vote for so they voted Republican, against Drumpf.

People with valuable political insights know this. rAT just squeeks.

  10. Ballotpedia shows Trump’s endorsement record for 2022 is 93-7.

The other day I listened to a round table discussion about the GOP primary results. One of the guests said that Trump was like Obama. His endorsement was the kiss of death. Another person on the panel corrected him, noting Trump’s 93-7 record. There was astonishment all around as the people on the panel, all conservatives, realized that they had been gaslighted by a media that only reported Trump’s failures & not his successes.
