Things That Give Me A Headache, Part CXXVI

By Mitch Berg

K. T. Tunstall.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, her current single – “Suddenly I See”, or whatever – is a whole lot better than her first, that gawdawful song with the impacted-sounding backup singers going “woo hoo” over and over again.  But the whole enterprise – every single song I’ve ever heard the woman do – sounds so utterly clenched that I just can’t react in any way but to reach for an ibuprofen.

That is all.

I liked that ‘wo hoo’ song. Get with the times *laughing*

NOW, when do I get my review of the new RUSH album *grin*

    Flash

I hate the “woo hoo” song and change the station whenever it comes on. Used to go to Rev105/Zone105/Drive105 but they suddenly become some form of horrible lite radio. I know their ratings sucked and the Current was sucking listeners away, but still……

You’re complaining about not liking some popular music?

    Then don’t listen to it.

It’s a well-established fact that 90% of all music written is crap. And 99% of all music performed is crap – at least so long as there is still a marketting department pushing for it to be played.

And songs, in general, are always crap. 4/4 time, major key, eight-bar ABA format – it’s boring as hell. And what, three minutes long? Maybe four? You simply can’t do anything that approaches meaningful development.

That’s the one great thing about only listening to music that was written by people who’ve been dead a couple of hundred years – they no longer have marketting departments. Which means that – aside from Leopold Mozart – if people are still listening to it it has a chance of not being crap.

I’d rather listen to Lucinda Williams.

Hey! Another Alt Country fan. That makes 2 of us!

Give me Grant Green or Joe Pass anytime over what’s on most radio.

“something something something… and a cherry tree.” That one? That song is cool. I was wondering who did that, and this one. You can tell it’s the same chick right away.
I like this dame. Good, catchy pop music that won’t leave your head and there’s a nice, repetative rhythm guitar part or two. I can’t recall the lyrics but I don’t remember being annoyed by them.
I’ve seen no photos of her – now just how would a guy go about researching this, I wonder…

PaulC – it’s actually only her backup singers and the claustrophobic shuffle of her two big singles that bug me. She’s got a decent voice, she’s a looker, and (be still my heart) she’s Scottish – and few things melt me like a lady with a Scots accent.
