Fingerprints

This next couple of Tuesdays will give us six primary races that should be bellwethers about the influence of Donald Trump in the midterms, and potentially in 2024.

There are four of them tomorrow – in Idaho, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio – and two more next week in Georgia and Alabama.

My hunch – as in the Virginia governor election last fall, the Democrats want the Trump candidates to win, and for the Trump endorsement to define the GOP during these races.

We’ll be covering the first batch of them Wednesday morning.

  2. I feel like correcting you by pointing out that I and the rest of Pennsylvania had our primary last week. But the Senate race is still too close to call and lawyers are getting involved, so I’m going to correct you and point out that our primary won’t be concluded until long after tomorrow.

(Disclosure: I voted for McCormick, and believe that Trump never should have endorsed Dr. Oz.)

  3. Pennsylvania is interesting— Republicans fighting each other over election fraud — it can’t get better than that. It’s like cancer killing itself. I’m seriously concerned about a popcorn shortage.

Can’t wait to see them shouting at each other “stop the steal, stop the steal”.

The thing about MAGA is that the extreme carries the base and even if Trump manages to out-extreme the other extremist contenders his prevalence for the absurd due to having no policies is going to have him providing night-after-night of comedy gold and the media will love it. And the flip side is that if he runs and doesn’t get the nomination there’ll be no end of the “RINO’s cheated me” — like he’s currently doing in Pennsylvania. Can’t lose.

The 2023/4 Republican Presidential primary season is going to be a clown-show for the ages.

  4. Mitch, did you write this a couple months ago? Bellweather? Trump’s current record is not convincing ENOUGH?

  5. Can’t wait to see which beauty the Republicans come up with in the 1st CD. Can you imagine if they nominate Carnahan or Munson…
