Attention Span

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

Two weeks. That’s all the longer the Virtue Signaling crowd can follow a story. After that, they lose interest in the story. And they never really care about the underlying causes or long-term consequences, only today’s headlines. That’s a terrible way to run a polity.

Governor Walz suspended the Constitution for two weeks “to flatten the curve.” Nobody questioned whether a state governor had the power to place the entire state under house arrest in peace time; to overrule the United States Constitution’s guarantees of religious worship and political assembly; to take away businesses owners’ livelihoods unequally – deeming some essential, some not, some owned by important contributors and some jailed for trying to make ends meet. Nobody knows and nobody is asking. The people who lost everything? Forgotten. We changed our Facebook pages then, and now we’ve moved on.

The truckers in Canada were a big deal for two weeks, but now it’s all over. Except it’s not – not for the participants. “While the Emergencies Act has been revoked, Justice Minister David Lametti, who appeared with Trudeau — said violations of it that occurred while it was in force would continue to be prosecuted in the justice system.” The answer to whether the Emergencies Act should have been invoked at all (and therefore whether violations of an unlawful order are still unlawful) is: Nobody knows and nobody’s asking. The people who lost everything? Forgotten. We changed our Facebook pages then, and now we’ve moved on.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was green-lighted by Lesko Brandon, who admitted his sanctions were never intended to deter invasion. The giant column of back-up troops is not attacking. Nuclear power plants are secure. Civilian casualties are being minimized. The United States is still buying oil from Russia, helping to finance the invasion, even as we contemplating sending Vice President Kamala Harris to Poland to rally the troops that we’re not sending in. The invasion is stalled, Nike isn’t selling shoes (but Coke is selling cola) in Russia, and Apple Pay won’t buy groceries for children in Moscow; what’s next? Nobody knows. The people who are about to lose everything? Not forgotten yet, but we’ve changed our Facebook pages. We’re ready to move on.

What’s next?

Joe Doakes

Maybe the effects of inflation on the poor?

No, that’s just crazy talk.

Let’s state the obvious. Health & Human Services MUST have poor people to justify their existence; even if they have to create them by importing them or crashing the economy.

Isn’t this kinda the flip side of the coin that allows us to know about events taking place all over the world to a degree that was unknown before, say, 1960 or 50? I mean, with or even without the global elites doing their best to fuck things up, it is intellectually, if not emotionally impossible to hold a position about everything happening. To be invested in everything. You have to prioritize, shut things out. Without feeling guilty.

Example, the Uyghurs. What about them? Aren’t they worthy of your attention anymore? Or the Tibetans? Or fetanyl (from PRC)? It never ends…

Lower income people are starting to wake up to the fact that the DemoCommies have been pimping them for years. The “party of the working man” mantra, was abandoned when Clinton took office, when it became the REAL party of the rich and elitists. Everything they do is projection and distraction, ala Saul Alinsky.

Regarding the “oppression of Ukraine”, we can’t let the DemoCommies forget that it’s all on them.

^ I sure hope so, boss. I’m not optimistic.

  5. Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

We would not be in this crisis if it were not for Biden’s disastrous Afghan defeat just six months ago. And that was all Joe, he thinks it went great, The same bag of incompetents is still in charge of the military and the state department. If ol’ Slow Joe thinks the Afghan debacle debacle was a a success to celebrate, what kind of an outcome is he looking for in the Russo-Ukraine war?
Fourteen months under Slow Joe’s rule and we have the first major land war in Europe since WW2, and there is a significant chance of European cities being nuked.
I wonder what the world will look like when Slow Joe’s term expires in January 2025?

“Lower income people are starting to wake up to the fact that the DemoCommies have been pimping them for years.”

Yeah well, who needs “low income” people when you still have the “no income” crowd sewn up tight, and you’re importing millions more every year.

It’s too bad the middle class won’t wake up to the fact that the GOP neo-cons have been fucking them even harder than the reprobates until after it’s too late.

Shame the media-led scaremongering and hysterical knee-jerk overreaction largely prevailed, to the detriment of everyone involved.

  8. jdm Says:

^ Look at Mr Hysterical Scaremongering Knee-jerk Overreaction try to distance himself from his legacy.

  9. Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

Biden wants us to think that he is not responsible for any of the bad stuff that has happened since he took office. But there has been a lot of bad stuff, supply chain issues that now look unsolvable, sky rocketing fuel & food & housing costs, a humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, and coming soon, Iranian nukes.
But by saying these disasters were inevitable, he makes himself look weak. If Biden can’t deal effectively with domestic or foreign policy, what good is he?
Fourteen months is all it took for Slow Joe to paint himself into this corner. And it is all on him, not circumstances.
He is literally making Jimmy Carter look good; Carter changed course (too late) when he saw the disasters he had created. Carter wanted a second term to change his legacy. Slow Joe thinks everything is fine.
BTW, Hugh Hewitt has been calling Biden “Slow Joe” since he had a run in with The Current Occupant in the early 2000’s long before Biden was selected for Obama’s veep spot.

“Shame the media-led scaremongering and hysterical knee-jerk overreaction largely prevailed, to the detriment of everyone involved.”

That’s what I’ve been saying for two years! The existence of the Covid virus was not a hoax, the panic reaction to terrorize the public was the hoax. Trump was right all along. I’m glad Emery Incognito finally agrees.

Now, let’s start the show trials. First up, Fauchi. Where can I get a tumbrel?

  11. Emery Incognito Says:

Yes, Monday morning quarterbacking is always fun. Do you believe this issue will play a large role in the governor’s race?

  12. justplainangry Says:

The same bag of incompetents is still in charge of the military and the state department.

    MP, right on cue:

U.S. Navy officials have said a warship can’t be deployed because its commander has refused the COVID-19 vaccine. The service said an East Coast guided-missile destroyer is “out of commission” after a Florida federal judge ruled that the Navy and Marine Corps cannot remove its officer for being unvaccinated against COVID-19.

  13. jdm Says:

Yes, Monday morning quarterbacking is always fun

We were right the whole time you ignorant slut.

  14. Emery Incognito Says:

^ Perpetual victims can make anything fit their narrative.

  15. kinlaw Says:

Lol, troll is admitting sh*t is HORRIBLE.

    Let’s go Brandon!

  16. Emery Incognito Says:

^ Have you finished that glossary of Ukrainian and Russian swear words?

  17. kinlaw Says:

By the way, no monday morning quarterbacking involved.

We knew responses to the dempanic were wrong, we were called conspiracy nuts.

We knew one of the most important and great things President Trump accomplished was America’s energy independence.

But no, got to get rid of orange man bad.

  18. kinlaw Says:

oops, jdm beat me to it

  19. jdm Says:

‘s’OK, kinlaw. When the troll starts with the cutsie-pie quips that only he thinks are funny, it’s the admission of failure.

And btw, I’m *not* a victim. I successfully passed through that vale of tears set up by the people you support with no loss. And certainly without kissing the boots of Team Fauci like you did.

  20. bikebubba Says:

Yes, it is highly problematic when something disappears from the news cycle after two weeks or so. To address this, there used to be a class of people with typewriters, printing presses, radio stations, TV stations, and even websites who would continue to cover issues like this so that the public did not forget what was happening.

I wonder what happened to them? That noted, I seem to remember that a member of this class named “Duranty” also failed to report the truth from that part of the world nearly a century ago. Maybe it’s that Ukrainian air that inhibits the work of the Fourth Estate.

  21. jdm Says:

bike, it’s interesting that as reporters became journalists and went to J-school to get degrees, the quality of their work went down. Btw, Duranty had a college degree 😉

  22. bikebubba Says:

As the great nephew of a journalist with a teaching certificate who was in North Africa, Italy, the Ardennes forest, and Ole Miss during its integration (and who compared that with Anzio), I agree. Credentialism can be H*** on professionalism. Ernie Pyle also lacked a degree and mocked the J school at IU.

Something serious happened in the world and the low-grade culture warriors miss their era of triviality.
