Its A Start

For the first time in 2021, over 100,000 carry permits were issued in one year in the state of Minnesota.

There are currently well over 350,000 permits in circulation. in 2003, the MN House research department estimated no more than 90,000 would ever be issued.

That is close to 10% of all eligible Minnesota adults. which has to mean in greater Minnesota, at least a fifth of adults have permits.

Only 90% to go.Only 90% to go.

  1. Record-breaking number of people with permits to carry; record-breaking number of shootings in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Obviously more guns on the streets = more people shot. And it’s mostly Black children getting shot, which makes guns racist. The only sensible solution is to ban guns. For the children.

  2. Guns are for defending your country, not for murdering people who annoy you in movie theaters.

  3. Jesus Christ, Emery. You get dumber by the day. The only people with guns that shoot people for “annoying them in a movie theater”, are street thugs and/or gangbangers. Tell your ChiCom handlers that they need to program you better.

  4. Guns are only for defending your country, not your own personal life. You should kneel calmly and allow yourself to be murdered, to avoid breaching the peace.

And they’re not for defending your wife or daughter from a rapist; tell her to lay back and think of England.

And definately not for defending anything you worked long and hard to buy. Put the gun away, put your work gloves on, and help carry your possessions to the looter’s car. It’s the neighborly thing to do.

  5. Guns are for defending your country, not for murdering people who annoy you in movie theaters.

    Someone check the wiring, please.

  6. there you go with false equivalences, guys. What’s your property, family, life against the awesome power of virtue signaling? Is there hashtag for that yet?

  7. One would figure that after the horrors of the 20th century and the surprising ability of Ukrainians to defend themselves against the Russians lately, even Emery would figure out that guns are also for defense of self, friends, and family. No such luck, though.

  8. Actually, I think I recall the “popcorn” (don’t Google “Corn Pop”) story from several months ago. IIRC, a permit holder did shoot someone who threw popcorn at him in a theater (if you went by the headline). Reading a little further it turned out there was an escalating confrontation between the men that ended quite violently and with a claim of self-defense. Whether or not the shooting would fit within MN’s (or the state where it occurred) definition of being justified, I don’t recall.

I did see the article in the St. Paul paper yesterday about the record-setting number of gun permits in MN. It actually was a pretty balanced story, that included quotes from Rob Doar that didn’t seem out of context. It even took the time to present proper context:

As of the report’s release date, there are 387,013 valid permits to carry a firearm in the state of Minnesota. In 2021, sheriffs suspended 176 permits, revoked 40, voided 1,165 and denied 1,627.

While individuals with carry permits committed 3,863 crimes in 2021, the most since the permit law was enacted, that represented just 1% of all permit holders, according to the BCA, while just over 2% of those offenses involved firearms in furtherance of a crime. The BCA said more than 61% were for driving while intoxicated or other traffic offenses that didn’t involve the use of a gun.

  9. There seems to be an epidemic of media interest in gun crimes committed with the defendant claiming the crime was justified by “stand your ground” laws.
This is because the media hates “stand your ground” laws. The reason that the media hates “stand your ground laws,” beyond general liberal hatred of the second amendment, is because they have bought the line that “stand your ground” laws were created to legalize white hillbillies shooting black people. So it’s the usual media madness, where they describe a distorted version of reality and insist that you live in it.
As far as I can tell, if a person shoots another person and it was not clearly in self defense, that person & his/her legal team are highly incentivized to claim the shooting was justified by “stand your ground,” whether or not the claim is valid.
As always take a highly critical view of what you see in the media. Always ask yourself why the item was plucked out of the infinite number of things that happen every day, identify the story they are trying to tell and do your best to poke holes in it. What they don’t to tell you is at least as important as what they do tell you.

  10. And they’re not for defending your wife or daughter from a rapist; tell her to lay back and think of England

Funny you should mention England. In the UK, it’s illegal for any member of the public to carry a lethal or non-lethal self defense weapon.

Also, you must act reasonably. In R v Lindsay, the defendant, who picked up a sword in self-defence when attacked in his home by three masked intruders armed with loaded handguns, killed one of them by slashing him repeatedly. The prosecution case was that, although he had initially acted in self-defence, he had then lost his self-control and demonstrated a clear intent to kill the armed intruder. The Court of Appeal confirmed an eight-year term of imprisonment.

  11. guns are also for gang banging yutes of undetermined origin to bust a cap in yo ass fool

  12. Minnesota also has joined the rest of civilized states in extending CWP reciprocity, which means I don’t have to submit myself unarmed to cold weather assaults when I visit up there.

And because I don’t want to have to worry about the cost of defending my legal right to self defense, or give it a milliseconds thought before I make use of it, I carry >$1m in insurance from the USCCA. The package comes complete with a list of lawyers you can contact 24/7 to do your talking for you.

btw, if you carry a firearm (if not, why not?) and are not a member of the USCCA you are really not prepared as you think. In addition to the peace of mind you get with their insurance, they have in-person training at facilities all over the country, and have excellent on-line training as well. I *highly* recommend them. Check them out.

  14. Just read that Comrade Biden decided, right after Ukraine rescued its defense by allowing its citizens to be armed with automatic rifles, that the thing to do to ensure public safety was a renewed assault weapons ban.

No, Joe, we’ve been there before, from 1994 to 2004, we found no improvement in public safety. Deal with reality here.

  15. bubba, I saw a cell phone video from a guy in Kyiv. He says a lot of the shooting in that city is being done by gangs that were given AK’s and ammo by Zelensky.

    But who knows?

  16. Time to stock up on 80% lowers so we can make our own untraceable ghost guns?

  17. JD, if you’re not already awash in 80% built in all calibers, you’re slacking. Pistols especially.
