Redistricting

The Minnesota congressional and legislative redistricting maps came out yesterday.

My options were:

  1. Remain in a moldy, one-party district run by authoritarian Karens who sit if office at the behest and pleasure of the public emplioyee unions, or:
  2. moldy, one-party district run by authoritarian Karens who sit if office at the behest and pleasure of the public emplioyee unions.

Anyway, it turned out I got #1.

Yay me.

  1. Same here. Education Minnesota types for as far as the eye can see in our renumbered district.

  2. Of course, this redistricting was done by a nonpartisan group of judges, two each appointed by Republican and Democrat governors, and one appointed by Ventura. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your narrative.

    We have a split legislature, so these districts were drawn by courts, not political parties. But nice try.

  3. Not sure if the Indians (sovereign nations?) got screwed or helped.

    Under the old maps, the reservations were spread between CD 7 and CD 8. Under the new map, all are in CD 8.

    I expect its probably an attempt to make up for loss of the reliably blue iron range vote by adding in more potentially blue voters. One expects some additional government largesse coming to the Indian communities to help assure proper voting.

  4. ok lets review;
    1 judge appointed by arnie carlson = Chamber of Commerce
    1 judge appointed by Tim Pawlenty = Chamber of Commerce
    1 judge appointed by Jesse Ventura = Democrat-Lite (skip humphrey endorsed)
    2 Judges appointed by Mark Dayton = Progressive(communist)

  5. ^ Good — we both can agree the courts drew this, not the DFL. In fact it has been that way for decades in MN, because the legislature never agrees. You know, it’s amazing how having more people supporting Democrats makes for more Democratic districts.

  6. ok to make this simpler for the Emery collective
    lets review;
    1 judge appointed by arnie carlson = center left
    1 judge appointed by Tim Pawlenty = center
    1 judge appointed by Jesse Ventura = left
    2 Judges appointed by Mark Dayton = communist

    of course the DFL drew the maps

  7. Vocab lesson, Pid B.

    Bi-partisan means we got shafted by DFL and RINOs, working together.

    Non-partisan means we got shafted by people who were appointed by DFL and RINOs, working together.

    Diversity means Liberals thinking the same thoughts while wearing different bodies.

    Terrorist means people who notice, people like you and me.

  8. It is obvious that Emery is getting his opinions from the independent, non-partisan, non-aligned StarTribune.

  9. I’m not so sure about your description of the Strib, Greg. I mean, the Mpls paper of record has been turned into such a right-wing, corporatist-shill mouthpiece since Glen Taylor purchased it.

  10. Bill,

    I hear you.

    It is hard to tell an establishment Republican from an establishment Democrat, but I know a sure-fire way. It’s how they talk about taxes.

    Republicans: “lower my taxes to nothing.”

    Democrats: “Tax me at 99% – but write the law so I pay nothing.”
