SCENE: Mitch BERG is paying his tab at a Korean restaurant. As his card is running, Avery LIBRELLE walks in. Waiting for his card, BERG desperately tries to make himself as small as possible. But it doesn’t work.

LIBRELLE: Merg!

BERG: Oh, shiiiiiiiiitake mushrooms made the perfect kimchi for the Galbi, and how the hey, Avery…

LIBRELLE: You had Covid?

BERG: Not that it’s any of your business, but yeah, I did. The original version.

LIBRELLE: So you were a negligent person who allowed yourself to get sick, endangering everyone around you.

BERG: So you think people who catch Covid bear some culplability…

LIBRELLE: It shows they don’t care about the poeple around them, and have depraved indifference to the suffering of those around you.

BERG: You haven’t heard, have you?

LIBRELLE: Nonsense. Probably. What?

BERG: The news.

LIBRELLE: What news?

BERG: Governor Klink…er, Walz, and most of his family, have tested positive for Covid.

LIBRELLE: …

BERG: And that’s after having all the vaccines and boosters, and apparently being able to go through hard-to-get tests like they are a bunch of gang-bangers burning through ammo.

LIBRELLE: …

BERG: So – what do you have to say?

LIBRELLE: The Governor is contributing to herd immunity, and is a hero.

BERG: Just like me.

LIBRELLE: Er…

BERG: Merry Christmas, Avery.

LIBRELLE: Hey, that’s triggering!

    The if-it’s-not-100%-effective-it’s-not-worth-it fallacy lives on today on SiTD.

    How about the 100 % chance to survive? Irrelevant?

    Vaccines don’t work well to prevent the spread of omicron. They do work well to prevent hospitalization and death. Outcomes have been milder, because omicron is hitting populations more protected against hospitalization and death.

    1) Then explain the lack of death in South Africa, a place with poor vaccination rates.

    2) I’m old enough to remember when vaccines prevented infection, not merely lessened the illness.

    I would also add that, with the exception of tetanus shots, normal, curative vaccines, only have to be revived once, not every six months, forever.

    Without the vaccine, you only have a 98% chance of survival.

    With the vaccine, you have a 99% chance of survival, assuming the vaccine itself doesn’t kill you.

    And with the Omicron variant being so much milder (virtually nobody has died from it anywhere in the world, vaccinated or not), the risk of ICU or death is even lower.

    With odds like these, why aren’t more people rushing out to get the vaccine? And the booster? And the second booster? And wearing masks? And cancelling Christmas? And . . .

    Not what I said, and never has been, but then facts are for Republicans.

    This isn’t about the effectivenss of vaccines. I’d add “and you know that”, but clearly “knowledge” isn’t your goal.

    This is about the sudden change in tone Dems are going to have to try to tack on.

    God help ’em all when Walz, like Jared Polis, finally admits that Covid is going to be endemic, that we’ll never eradicate it, that as viruses evolve they become more contagious and less lethal, etc.

    Watch for the suicide rates among Karen to skyrocket, as their brief purpose in life is shattered.

    Maybe we are being set up for another unforced error by Team Biden.
    Biden has claimed, again and again, that vaxxes protect you from severe illness and death.
    The dude is 79 years old, not in the best of health, and has let everyone in the world know that he is following the rules about vaxxes, etc. Suppose he gets covid or some other ailment and the results are . . . bad?
    It’s a definite possibility. On an average day, I meet, face to face, maybe a dozen people, most of them clerks at shops or cute waitresses. Biden meets dozens at least, plural, and we now know that masking does nothing, and vaxxes are little better than masks at preventing the transmission of covid.

    Pete beat me to it, but here is the definition of vaccines:

    plural noun: vaccines
    a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.

    What is being administered now, is not a vaccine, but a big ONE 1 DAY multivitamin.

    Shame on everyone who does not understand this fact.

    Got that? As of December 23rd, if you work at a care facility full of the elderly and others with compromised immune systems, you can return to work seven days after testing positive for covid.
    The people stocking the shelves at Walmart still must self isolate for ten days.
    Oh, and:
    Healthcare workers who have received all recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses, including a booster, do not need to quarantine at home following high-risk exposures.
    People who are fully vaccinated & boosted are one of the most significant covid vectors.
    This is not science. It is flailing.
