Girls ‘n Horses
By Mitch Berg
I don’t follow horse racing at all, although it was the only form of gambling at which I’ve ever succeeded (as in, have never lost money in my life).
Still, I love reading people who do:
Street Sense just beat Hard Spun.
I know it sounds like the headline the morning after the election in which Guliani beats Clinton, but it’s the Kentucky Derby.
Miss O’Hara’s liveblog culminated with…:
As soon as Street Sense made his move, I just started to cry. I don’t know why, but I did (and my husband started laughing at me for being such a silly female).
It’s more fun than actually watching the thing…

Hey, it was cool watching that horse come from the middle of the pack and burst out. It was like watching Seabiscuit, only it was real.

Yeah, I cried too. I cried as I walked up to the betting window at Canterbury and cashed in my $50 win ticket. Thank you, Street Sense.

Middle of the pack Kermit???? He was next to LAST when he started that move! I thought for sure he was done for.
This is the first year that the Logical Family did not make it to Canterbury for the Derby. The Junior Logician was sick and the Logical Husband was golfing (in the rain HA!). So I stayed home and planted and then turned the race on about 30 minutes before post time.
Then on Sunday it was the Rolex 3 Day Eventing Championships! It was a perfectly horsey weekend for me – enough so that I actually started missing riding again.
