Ever notice how the press never cares about civil rights being trashed until its their civil rights being trashed?
He’s wrong, of course. A press that holds power accountable is “foundational to democracy”. So we’re screwed.
By the way – not holding “emergency power” long after the emergency has passed is also “foundational to democracy”.

Obviously, it’s OK for “mostly peaceful” protesters and reprobates like Elected by morons John Thompson, to threaten and assault “journalists”. Sadly, I’m also OK with the left’s propaganda arm getting beat downs. I mean, why should conservatives be the only ones?

Plainly, the problem is irresponsible citizen-journalists like Andy Ngo and Scott Johnson and Mitch Berg spreading misinformation that undermines The Narrative on Covid and civil unrest and fair elections.
I recommend Governor Walz use his Emergency Powers to establish licensing for journalists to ensure the ordinary public always receives a consistent, government-approved message. There’s historical precedent – the Office of Censorship was set up during World War II. Is the present pandemic any less a crisis?
Plus, it will reduce the cutting-and-pasting which the Emery Collective has to do since every media outlet always will have exactly the same message.

History is replete with individuals taking extra power to resolve some crisis. Very few ever give the power back willingly.

If you don’t dispute the #s, COVID has killed more Americans than died in WW2, and in a much shorter timeframe.

There’s a lot of reasons to dispute the official Covid death count. It’s still substantial, but I’m really tired of the inappropriate comparison to WW II deaths, because every single year way more people die than we lost in the four years of WW II. The median age of Covid decedents has been and remains 82 years. It’s an apples to zebras comparison. Median age of Americans who died in WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan probably less than 25.

Even if we admit that each COVID-infected death is a COVID death, wouldn’t we want to quantify the estimated number of years of life lost? Maybe that would help put things in perspective a bit.

Pete, it strikes me that the average decedent is losing a couple of years of life, so we would infer that the entire person-years lost from COVID is comparable to what we lose in car accidents annually, and is far less than what we suffer from suicide, drug overdoses, smoking, overeating and sloth.
Now I could retire…if only I had the money. :^)
