Fortuitous

A friend of the blog emails in re the Taco Bell at Snelling and Edmund in the Midway:

Hmmm, are we positive that the city council didn’t pay people to riot in St Paul? Now I just read that the Taco Bell on Snelling can’t reopen until a conditional use permit for drive thru is issued because they need that in order to rebuild. (Even though they already have a drive thru currently).

I know the city has been itching to get rid of the shopping center and the Taco Bell both. Seems too easy…

As we noted last week, the whole “renovation by Molotov Cocktail” thing this past month does seem to have been all too convenient…

  1. This is another assault on a Minnesota based business. Taco Bell restaurants in Minnesota, are operated by two brothers, owners of franchisee, Border Foods, which is based in New Hope. Nothing like stomping on the American dream for evil rich people.

  2. I don’t believe that we’ll ever prove it–nobody ever really fesses up to games like this, except in disgust at the antics of another–but it strikes me that if this is true, I’d be pleading with the powers that be to get off my side if I were a poor person living in the area.

    “OK, folks, we had a restaurant that sold marginally healthy food at a reasonable price in my area, and you dun burned it down and refused to allow it to be rebuilt–will you PLEASE get off my side? With friends like you, I don’t need any enemies.”

  3. Funny thing, boss, bubba, all they have to do is stop voting the reprobates in to improve their lot. But I bet they will continue to vote demoncRat to remain on plantation.

  4. jpa;

    Maybe enough of them have finally figured it out. Picked up some take out at Hoa Bien on Saturday on my way to a friend’s house. When I asked how business was, the owner told me that despite the city doing everything they can think of to run us out of business, we’re doing well now. (If you recall an earlier post I made, the light rail project almost did them in). To which I replied, “Yup! Time to give the Democrats the boot.” Her reply was “Amen to that!” Here’s a shameless plug, too. If you want authentic Vietnamese food, this place can’t be beat!

  5. My son loves the Beef Lo Mein at Hoa Bien, and I always get Hot and Spicy Chicken. Their egg rolls have good filling – not just cabbage.

    Too bad their location is next to the light rail station and therefore right-turn only from the parking lot onto University. I don’t care to drive the Lex-Uni neighborhood, if I don’t have to, particularly after dark. It was okay 15 years ago when I lived near Pascal but now, the blight is spreading West. And they’re not on Uber Eats.

  6. I’m with you JD, but our favorite Vietnamese place has been Pho by Saigon. I’m not venturing into the bowels of Minneapolis or St. Paul again except by subpoena; fortunately, Saigon has opened a branch near my suburb.

  7. NW;

    I also enjoy iPho by Saigon. They opened a shop in Inver Grove Heights.

    Kimson in Bloomington, is also good, but due to the restricted by Walz dining rules, they have limited their menu to their top 7 selling items.

    On another note, learned last evening that the owners of the El Nuevo Rodeo Restaurant were fully compensated for their loss by their insurance company. They are not planning on rebuilding. They will just buy another restaurant.
