“But Mitch – Why Does Berg’s Twentieth Law Exist?”

I’ll cop to it – I’ve been pretty cynical about “hate crimes” lately. Let’s stipulate in advance – they do happen.

But Berg’s 20th Law – “All incidents of ‘hate speech’ not captured on video (involving being delivered by someone proven not to be a ringer) shall be assumed to be hoaxes until proven otherwise” – is a law for a reason.

Or, rather, many, many reasons – including this one from, what else, a poitician from the west coast:

Jonathan Lopez, who is Latino and was a recent candidate for Umatilla County commissioner, claimed he discovered the hate-filled missive in his mailbox on June 23, the East Oregonian reported.

On his now-deleted Facebook account, he shared a photo of the letter, which said that Lopez and other “Mexicans” were “not welcome here,” according to local news station KEPR-TV.

“Don’t waste your time trying to become anything in this county we will make sure you never win and your family suffers along with all the other f–king Mexicans in the area!” the letter said.

Lopez wrote in the post that he “holds no resentment for whomever wrote this,” the outlet reported.

Oh, I bet he holds some resentment for the writer – or at least the writer’s judgment…:

“Our investigation has shown that Mr. Lopez wrote the letter himself and made false statements to the police and on social media,” Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston told the East Oregonian.

“The end result is a verbal and written admission by Mr. Lopez that the letter was fabricated.”

Edmiston said the case would be forwarded to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for review on charges for initiating a false report.

“This investigation is particularly frustrating as we are in the midst of multiple major investigations while battling a resource shortage due to the current pandemic,” Edmiston told the outlet.

In a party where reputations and political capital are ever-more based on intersectional virtue-signaling and dog-whistling, politicians are gonna virtue signal and dog-whistle.

Well, presuming the guy’s a Democrat.

Because Mr. Lopez’s party is never mentioned in the article.

Weird, huh?

  1. Jonathan Johnson, who is of Norwegian heritage and was a recent candidate for Uffda County commissioner, claimed he discovered the hate-filled missive in his mailbox on June 23. the Northern Minnesotan reported.

On his now-canceled Facebook account, he shared a photo of the letter, which said that Johnson and other “European Trump Supporters” were “not welcome here,” according to local news station CAREBEAR-TV.

[correction]: both the staff of The Northern Minnesotan and CAREBEAR-TV laughed Mr. Johnson out of their offices after instructing him to “check his privilege”.

  2. A look at the census shows that in 2010 the population of Umatilla county was 25% Hispanic.
Many liberals believe that racists & bigots choose to live in parts of the country where a lot of Mexicans and blacks live.
The fact is that there are so few racial attacks in this country that minorities have to commit hate crimes against themselves.

  3. And, we still haven’t heard the results of the investigation into the black SJW in Madison, WI, that encountered a bunch of white guys lounging around a light pole, squirted a flammable liquid on her and lit her on fire. My bet is that she did it to herself, while trying to light something offensive to her on fire.

  4. Let’s stipulate that “hate crimes” are a wholly fabricated construct for use by leftist reprobates to undermine the morale of Caucasians, especially Caucasian men. Negroes have been beating the snot out of Caucasians foolish enough to get caught alone among a crowd of them for years, but with their newly invigorated sense of entitlement and invulnerability, the beat-downs have become more frequent and much more vicious. But I have yet to come across a single instance where where they were charged with “hate crime”, much less convicted.

I refuse to play the reprobate’s game. “Hate crime” means “white crime” and I reject it out of hand.

  5. Hoss, it’s a foregone conclusion. That girl was squirting flammable liquid on an arson fire, and set herself on fire.

She and her family have gone to ground and are not talking. They are hoping no one digs into the case.

  6. The law is immutable. I posted this update a couple threads back. It seems camera surveillance is not hoaxers’ friend:

Police investigating racist messages left on a Texas A&M student’s car in June say all available evidence points to it being a hoax. School officials offered a $1,200 reward on June 25 for any evidence that identified the person who wrote “All lives matter, “You don’t belong here,” and “n—r” messages before leaving them on senior Isaih Martin’s windshield. A College Station cop who watched surveillance footage from a nearby pool camera say that what they witnessed implicated Mr. Martin himself as the culprit.

  7. jpa;
Funny! I was just going to post about this “incident.” The police have apparently now determined that Martin was responsible for the hoax and the matter has been referred to the DA for possible charges for filing a false report. The Chief also had some words of admonishment for Mr. Martin and those that would perpetrate these hoaxes, that the department has a lot of other serious cases that get short changed to investigate these.

  8. Umatilla County is where Pendleton Woolen Mills is headquartered, and until 2001, they had an attraction at “Pendleton Days” where the local Umatilla Indians pretended to kidnap some of their white neighbors to start the rodeo. The woolen mill has been buying wool from the reservation for 150 years now, and while I’m sure things are not absolutely perfect, the community is something of a model for what ethnic/racial relationships can be when both sides are interested in the success of the other.

Not surprisingly, in a community with (apart from this guy) a lot of ethnic and racial cooperation, the legislators representing them are….Republicans. Just sayin’.
