Representative Karen

Tina LIebling, representative from…

…well, it might as well be Eastasia, given her attitude about, well, the role of the elected legislature, especially the part that’s in opposition., But I digress.

Here’s the representative, talking about GOP Senators who were doing the – let me make sure I’m perfectly clear oh this – actual job they were elected to do, standing up for their constituents’ interests.

No matter, to Rep. Karen:

Hey, at least state rules forced her to unblock me!

  1. Would these be the same Republicans who (had “technical difficulties” with their virtual convention) took great pleasure in mocking the Iowa Democrats after they had technical issues?

    Q. Why is the party of “open everything up right now” having a virtual convention?

    A. For the exact same reason the Fox “News Infotainment celebrities” are doing their shows remotely.

They should just get together in person. Funny how they’re not willing to take the same risk they want others to take for the sake of the economy.

  2. but so would losing your grandma bc she got sick at your graduation

Just to clear this up and let Rep. Liebling know, at this time, barring any executive orders by The Great and Wonderful Walz, attendance at graduations is not mandatory for grandparents.

  3. Q. Why is the party of “open everything up right now” having a virtual convention?

Our good friend Emery seems to have the same problem as the esteemed State Representative Tina Liebling.

They seem to confuse the right to gather with a mandate to gather.

You see, (Emery and Ms Liebling), conservatives believe in the rights of individuals to make rational decisions. A virtual convention affords those who do not wish to attend in person, the ability to attend virtually.

If you still can’t wrap your mind around the concept, think of it this way, say that I want to buy something at Target but I live with my grandparents who are in very poor health and not wanting to put them at risk, I choose to isolate myself and them from the rest of the population during this Covid crisis. This is my choice…………sooooooo, Target allows me to buy stuff online.

Now maybe other people do not suffer the same circumstances as I and choose to buy stuff at Target in person.

    Get the idea!

  4. This is my choice

You just used the “C” word to reference something other than abortion, Greg. You’re just gonna confuse Emery.

  5. The concept of choice seems to be lost on these people.

    Ironic if you ask me.

  6. You have to understand the progressive understanding of the word: choice.

Choice is what they, and only they, allow you to choose.

  7. Why meet? The Republican platform is the same: “Find someone to blame.” And they’ll do that here.

It’s the same political party who voted against voting security measures who now have issues with voting security.

  8. Governors seized the power to rule by decree because they wanted to “flatten the curve” and keep hospitals from being overrun.
Hospitals never even came close to getting overrun.
So, why are they still allowed to claim emergency power?
    Smells like tyranny to me.

  9. Barbershops and hair salons are closed almost everywhere, by the order of governors.
Is there any real-life, proven case where covid-19 passed from a barber to a customer or vice versa?

  10. took great pleasure in mocking the Iowa Democrats after they had technical issues>

The Iowa Democratic Party has demonstrated in back-to-back caucuses that its leadership can’t find their a** with a map and a flashlight. In 2016, they couldn’t be bothered to staff all of their precincts. Their method of counting people for a candidate closely resembles cat-herding in it results and evidence of rational thought that went into it. And in 2020, the Iowa Democratic Party decided to test their new recording app in production.

  11. “Dr. Deborah Birx cautioned governors from including hair salons and barber shops — even when people are wearing masks — in their first round of reopenings, even as some governors in some states are either considering taking the step or have taken it already.”

“Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned governors against “leapfrogging” the [Trump] White House guidelines.”

Curious how you never offer proof to support your arguments.

  13. I as k for a verified case of covid-19 passing between a barber and a customer, and Emery posts some bureaucrat warning that barbers can pass the disease to their customers.
    Typical.
I believe in data and reasoning from empirical data, not words.

  14. You wouldn’t need amateur epidemiologists if the pro epidemiologists believed in reasoning from empirical data.
Still waiting for that verified case of covid-19 passing from a barber to a customer.
    Betcha I don’t get it.
Maybe a pro epidemiologist can explain how Hawaii, which was getting 30,000 tourist arrivals and departures a day all winter is the state with the lowest number of covid-19 deaths.
Pro epidemiologists prefer to look to their imaginations rather than empirical data and facts that conflict with the cloud castles they have built.

  15. No, the right things are objective. Wear a mask when out, socially distance, wash your hands often, and limit travel. Nothing subjective about it, unless subjecting others to increased risk is for some reason acceptable rather than perverse.

  16. The is now enough reliable medical data to draw preliminary conclusions about risk. 80% of Minnesota Covid deaths were inmates of long-term care. 98% had one of six underlying co-morbidities. If you’re not one of those 700 people, your chances of dying from it are smaller than being struck by lightning. Even Og the Caveman knew he only needed to hide in the cave until the storm passed.

There is no medical evidence that wearing a red bandanna tied over your mouth, or standing six feet away from another person instead of only five feet, materially affects a person’s chances of avoiding the Covid-19 virus. These are not scientific recommendations, they are fetishes like the stick Og carried to ward off the Thunder God, which the Left has made into fashion statements: virtue-signaling in physical form rather than by Tweet.

Washing my hands has nothing to do with attending graduation. Unlike a certain candidate for President, I will not be laying my hands on young women.

Limiting travel by those who are not infected does nothing to slow the spread of the virus. Those who are infected but only mildly, are the agents who help build herd immunity. Preventing them from doing their necessary work unnecessarily prolongs the time until we reach that goal.

The risk of attending graduation is already acceptable. It’s the Governor’s restrictions that are perverse.
    .

  17. It is interesting to hear try to justify mask wearing and social distancing. There is no empirical data that shows that wearing a piece of cloth over your mouth or staying six feet apart does anything to protect anyone, so they fall back on pop-science or newspaper articles written by non-scientists.
In the old days people would carry a bundle of dried flowers called a “posey.” They thought that breathing through a posey would keep them from getting the plague.
Poseys were the masks and social distancing of the 17th century.

  18. Incredible that the new test of loyalty to Trump is to ignore the advice of medical experts and take an unproven drug that may cause heart failure.

What could possibly be next — disinfect injections?

  19. I am happy to take the advice of medical experts who convince me they know what they’re talking about. I have frank discussions with my personal physician who honestly admits he’s going on probability. “Most” men over a “certain” age would “likely” benefit from taking an aspirin-a-day. But that’s not an individualized diagnosis based on medical tests of my personal body, that’s a generic recommendation which he feels comfortable making. Based on my trust in his integrity, I’m willing to do it.

I have no such trust in politicians, particularly politicians whose recommendations change with the wind. Make no mistake – the people who hold leadership positions in government did not get there because of their impressive medical expertise but because of their impressive political connections.

Trump’s unwillingness to blindly trust them is a sign of intelligence guided by experience. That’s a good thing.

  20. It makes no logical sense to say:
    a) I want to reopen the economy fast but also
    b) I oppose the safety measures —including masks — that enable fast re-opening.

By wearing a mask across the face it says:
“The Trump administration failed. Massively. They said they had this virus under control. Instead, it raged so far out of control that we’ve had to remake our way of life.”

It’s a matter of identity, a MAGA hat in reverse.

The trouble is that by rejecting the hated symbol of Trump’s failure, they risk aggravating the reality of that failure: another virus spike, even tighter lockdowns. They have to choose between symbols and realities.

  21. By wearing a mask across the face it says:
“The Trump administration failed. Massively. They said they had this virus under control. Instead, it raged so far out of control that we’ve had to remake our way of life.”

Bullshit. In my state and many others it is a legal requirement when in a shop. I’ve heard that in some states where wearing a mask is optional, businesses may have their own rule requiring wearing a mask (despite the lack of evidence that it does any good).
I note that Emery has yet to provide a link to research that shows a bit of cloth over the mouth and nose does anything to prevent the spread of covid-19.

It makes no logical sense to say:
    a) I want to reopen the economy fast but also
    b) I oppose the safety measures —including masks — that enable fast re-opening.

It doesn’t make logical sense because no one actually thinks that.
    it’s more like:
    a) I want to normalize the economy fast and also,
    b) Eliminate the superstitious belief that wearing a mask or maintaining social distance prevents the spread of covid-19, because,
    c) You cannot normalize the economy if people insist on wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

  22. This is what happens when you have a lackadaisical federal response (and rampant incompetency within the federal government) and leave the states to their own devices. The States can only do so much so we ended up with 50 different responses without any federal guidance.

A lot of you naysayers are going to awfully disappointed when the egghead scientists discover that the best preventative measure for Covid-19 is a strict daily regimen of bronzing applications, four big macs, and hydroxychloroquine treatments. 😂

  23. Maskies don’t control bat flu any better than pussy hats. Pussy hats, with their cute little ears, are much more stylish than maskies.

Leftist twats shoukd wear pussy hats to signal thwir virtue. Leave the maskies for front line abortionists who need them to keep the splatter out of their mouths.

  24. Oh, almost forgot. You can line your pussy hat with tinfoil. Tinfoil lined maskies are very uncomfortable and dont prevent Drumpf from filling your empty heads with Wrongthink ™.

Remember our little talk about Logical Fallacies? This one is called False Assumption.

The notion that masks are a safety measure which enables fast re-opening is a False Assumption. There is no scientific or medical evidence to show that wearing any old rag around your head is effective to prevent the spread of Covid virus.

Since the Assumption is False, the logical reasoning is False. Failure to endorse masks is not inconsistent with desiring a fast re-opening.

That’s logic. That’s reason. It’s based on science. Which is why certain people are utterly incapable of understanding it.

  26. Is there any evidence that covid-19 is contagious in outdoor settings? Or at supermarkets?
From what I have gleaned (you cannot expect our “essential” journalists to do anything other than rebroadcast state propaganda), the disease is only passed between people who are confined in a small, crowded area with poor ventilation. And even then it is not certain. About a million people a day still ride the NY subway system, and their hospital admissions are dominated by people who did not catch it on the subway.

So not propaganda but satire. That’s a much better source to cite to support your “arguments”.
