Blue Fragility, Part V

In which NPR’s On the Media, the exposed, yapping inner id of the “elite” media, #progsplains us that notwithstanding the very plain facts that about half of all Covid deaths are concentrated in one of America and the world’s most densely-populated metro areas, and that 80% are in states centered around major, densely populated metro areas, and the slowly emerging science that seems to show that Covid’s spread is closely tied to density…

…that rural red states are gonna get it, but good, because racism. Just you watch.

As predicted.

  1. And when major outbreaks don’t happen in Red States – they will have moved on and see no use in talking about it.

  2. Mitch, while population/housing density IS a major contributor to the rate of infections and subsequent deaths in the NYC megalopolis, there are two other contributors to the scourge that are overlooked.
First is hygiene, they simply don’t have a local culture that values hygiene. If you’ve ever shopped the corner bodegas in NYC you know that the owner is NOT sanitizing the place every night so that its clean and attractive the next morning when he opens up, hell if you’re lucky he sweeps out the dead roaches and rats. Even places that you’d expect better of have toilets that remind you of public pissoirs in Tijuana after fleet week.
Second is parochialism, a notion that being New Yorkers, they are special, entitled, that the rules are at best only guidelines and are really only meant for others. A perfect example of this is Chris “Fredo” Cuomo and his very public flouting of the lock down when he was infected. This backward parochial attitude I believe explains why New York has been harder hit than other high density cities in this country.
If Trump has made a truly significant mistake it was not ordering a quarantine of NY,NJ, and CT a month ago.

  3. The left is really starting to lose their sh*t. Media and academia (all of whom are still on payroll) are calling lockdown protests “racist”. Nazi Pelosi is snapping at Fake Tapper (when the dems have lost cnnlol). The Atlantic is calling for internet censorship. I think they understand they are losing control of their temporary and unconstitutional power. I don’t believe any dem governor or mayor is planning on willingly lifting the lock down. We are headed for some interesting times.

  4. kinlaw;
The censorship has begun. There was an episode of Larry King’s show, where Tara Reade’s mom called into the show shortly after the incident occurred, about Joe Biden’s groping/molestation of her daughter. His name wasn’t mentioned and her mom passed away in 2016, but Ms. Reade has verified that it sounds like her mom. A person researching this, found that the episode disappeared from Google’s play list.

  5. JDM-
Another example of the US Chamber of Commerce hurting America to make a quick buck off of illegal labor.

  6. Yep, Iowa is bracing itself for the surge, so much so that Gov. Reynolds announced plans to lessen the restriction in 77 of Iowa’s 99 counties, where we’ve seen downward trends in the last 2 weeks: https://www.kcci.com/article/reynolds-to-end-more-mitigation-restrictions-starting-may-1/32290595

Per the Iowa Dept of Public Health from 26 April, IA has a cumulative count of 5476 positive cases. That number seems scary until you see that the state has a total of 286 people actually in hospital beds across the state right now, and 1900 people have recovered. There’s been 30,614 negative tests, and that the state has tested 1 in every 87 Iowans.

When I go on a “supply run” here, the number of dead bodies in the streets that I have to steer around has dropped to zero from, well, zero.

I saw an interesting question posited on-line recently: Would NYC shut down if half of the COVID-19 deaths were in Montana?

Also, I saw a humorous meme on Twitter recently: When Iowans were told they had to maintain 6′ spacing, they got confused looks on their faces and then moved closer to each other…

    Very good, Ian. So true.

  8. There is no second wave. We haven’t stopped the first wave. We’re not going to stop it. It’s a virus, it’s here. Unless you have a vaccine let us get back to normal. It’s clear as day now that the vast majority of fatalities are amongst the elderly or vulnerable.

Continued lockdown is destroying the economy and the threat to the vast majority in this country is negligible. Locking the country down is not a solution, the virus is going nowhere so we need to just get on with life and stop pretending this is the apocalypse.

  9. I’m wondering if the relatives of the victims of suicide, brought on by the fear and panic spewed by the Governor’s corrupt cabals, will file wrongful death suits against them?
