Wascally

The CDC advises people over 60 to avoid crowds, stay home to avoid the virus.
If all of us old people are going to be sitting around in our bathrobes, self-quarantined, Netflix should bust out the good stuff.

Pajama party!

Joe Doakes

Sometimes I wonder if kids today would know what to make of Warner Brothers cartoons…

  1. Once, when my oldest daughter was in her teens, we were channel surfing and came across an episode of HR Pufnstuf. “This was really popular when I was a kid,” I told her. We watched about 10 minutes.

“Drugs were a real problem in the 70s, weren’t they, Dad?”

  2. Joe Doakes must have come from one of those wealthy families with color television sets.

  3. Yea, those were the days. I watch the Simpson’s. It’s not as funny as it used to be, but it still good for at least one chuckle every episode.

  4. Yeah, MP, we had White Privilege. In fact, everybody in our whole town had it. There were no Black, Native American, Latino, or Southeast Islanders, no Muslims or Hindu or Jews. Our sole minorities were Baptists: everybody else was Catholic or two flavors of Lutherans. Small town in rural Minnesota in the 50’s.

But I was never so impressed as the day my Dad hooked up the new television and I got to watch Fireball XL-5 in color.

  5. B/W TV for us until ’67 or ’68. But when there was something special on TV, my grandparents would invite us over to watch it on their color TV. Most notably, I remember the 1965 broadcast of the Rodgers & Hammerstein version of Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren.

  6. Look on the bright side – four more weeks of sweat pants! Yay!

Of course, it sucks to be one of the Little People, the single mothers who formerly waited tables in small town diners across the state, now unemployed for at least another month and no telling if they’ll have a job to go back to. How many small businesses can afford to pay PITI with no income, month after month?

I suppose Hillary had it right all those years ago. Democrats can’t worry about every under-capitalized business in America. Maybe those single mothers can learn to code? From home?

  7. Per the Strib today (slightly more credible than China), the recent “surge” in cases in St. Louis County is from a single nursing home, and the victims are in their 70s and 80s. They’ve been locked down for weeks now, but can’t pinpoint who brought the it into the home.

  8. The initial justification was to avoid overwhelming the hospitals. That goal has been met.

Ah, but there may be a spike in cases coming, maybe in two weeks? So we must remain under house arrest until the spike passes, to avoid overwhelming the hospitals.

Or maybe we need to wait long enough for the economy to tank far enough that even Donald Trump can’t resurrect it before the election. Geez, Governor, when I suggested the day before early voting begins as the end date, I was only kidding. That wasn’t a “hold my beer and watch this” challenge.

  9. “ So we must remain under house arrest until the spike passes, to avoid overwhelming the hospitals.”

So, did your Governor shut down PP abattoirs? They often send hemorrhaging collaborators to the hospital when they botch a chop job. They also use supposedly scarce PPE.

If they have not, are they sending the bleeding collaborators back for Dr. Mengele to patch up?

Bet my next paycheck the answer is no.

But you all just sit tight until they say otherwise.

  10. JD;
If you’re looking for nostalgia, you can find those old episodes of Fireball XL-5 and Stingray on Hulu. And, I have seen them on a couple of the over the air networks over the past few weeks. I most recently saw some Stingray episodes three weeks ago, I believe on AntennaTV.
