Climate Of Hate
By Mitch Berg
Sarah Palin appeared at the Mall of America yestrday, signing copies of Going Rogue for a crowd that drove from all over Minnesota, started gathering at 5AM, waited for over six hours, and generally comported themselves well.
I said generally:
Not everyone shared that sentiment. While most who waited were orderly, Jeremy Olson, who police said has no permanent address, was arrested and jailed after a tomato he threw at Palin hit two Bloomington officers on the stage.
Who does Mr. Olson blog for?
On behalf of the 45-odd percent of Minnesotans who are demonstrably sane, I apologize for the State of Minnesota. But this is nothing new, if you’re a conservative in Minnesota. Their hatred deranges them; they think “my ends justify my means, no matter how dim and stupid my means are. If I hate someone, then anything I do to them is justified, because they are teh icky”.
Fortunately, he throws like a Minnesota leftist:
He was charged with fourth-degree assault on a police officer, a gross misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. Mall spokeswoman Erica Dao said the tomato landed nowhere near Palin and did not disrupt the signing.
So many metaphors. So little time.

Ha, ha, so funny to watch you guys soil yourselves when some hackey-sacker chucks some produce at the Quitter-in-Chief. Maybe he shoulda just hung around outside Macy’s sporting an assault rifle and typo-ridden sign replete with vague threatening messages. Draped in tea bags of course.
December 8th, 2009 at 9:18 am
“Soil ourselves”?
Haha. So funny to watch “people” like you trying to turn derision and mockery into “soiling”.
By the way – how many charges were filed against the people with the rifles?
“Threatening messages” – please. Why do you hate the First Amendment so much?

So if one person shows up to a rally with a nazi sign, that person is an anomale that should not been seen as a blight on the general message of the cause as a whole (because they agree with you). But one nutter who lobs a fruit is somehow indicative of the general message of the opposition as a whole (because they disagree with you).
I agree it’s not fair to call Bachmann a nutter because of one person in her crowd. But how about “nutter by proxy?” Not P.C. enough?

Fifteen hundred Minnesota wingnuts with nothing better to do than stand in the cold and meet some lady with no job. Though it looks like she pulled less than one-fifth the crowd of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

one nutter who lobs a fruit is somehow indicative
It would be nice if this were an isolated incident, but it sadly is not.

AB,
We’ve learned! You lefties have shown us the light! Only the most absurd, inflammatory example counts…
…and everything we don’t like is not just an act we don’t like, but a symbol of a larger “climate” to which you all contribute!
You’re catching on – and so are we!
And what Kerm said. Shall we get a count of the number of lefties who not only thought throwing pies at conservative speakers was teh funni, but did it with the tacit blessings of their universities?
December 8th, 2009 at 10:05 am
Throwing a tomato is the most absurd, inflamatory thing we can come up with? Man, we do have a lot to learn from the conservatives…
December 8th, 2009 at 10:12 am
“Shall we get a count of the number of lefties who not only thought throwing pies at conservative speakers was teh funni, but did it with the tacit blessings of their universities?”
Two. And this must be what you mean by a “tacit blessing” from a univeristy:
“Freedom of speech is prized on a university campus,” Chapman said in his statement, “While Brown students are encouraged to express their opinions on any subject and in a variety of forums, the University does not tolerate such assaults against a speaker or disrupting the right of others to hear a speaker’s perspectives.”
December 8th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Tomato! Did someone check if it was organic? With all those starving Americans because of evil Republicans, and he’s wasting food!
He must have no been from the “Welcoming Committee”! Then it would have been bags of urine and feces!
December 8th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Well, that was a brave statement.
But it’s been noticed that at plenty of schools where pie-attacks took place, the statement was accompanied by an “investigation” that was too dilatory to take seriously, and “punishments” that didn’t even amount to slaps on the wrist.
This, as conservative students who publish newspapers are getting sanctioned and hounded out of school.

New sign at entrance to the MOA:
The Mall of America does not permit the carrying of tomatoes in this place.
December 8th, 2009 at 10:59 am
“Freedom of speech is prized on a university campus,”
And kept tightly under lock and key. There is a reason the vast majority of university professors lean left. If your resume has Hillsdale College on it you ain’t getting a job at UW Madison.
Freedom of speech, unless you’re Tom Tancredo. Or Ann Coulter. Or anyone slightly to the right of Che. Give me a friggin break with the freedom of speech at universities BS. It’s died when the Class of ’72 graduated and decided to stay.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I am not surprised that liberals basically say “no big deal” when one of their moon-bats assaults a police officer.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Tomatoes! Pies! Wingnuts getting “hounded out of school” for simply being wingnuts! Angry, bitter fringe-right kooks whining about their victimhood yet again. Poor wingnuts! What a curse to be white, middle-class males!
December 8th, 2009 at 11:46 am
AssClown, you forgot they’re bitter, clinging to their guns and religion. It’s quite pathetic when you can’t even remember your talking points.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Tossing tomatoes, Oreo cookies (at Michael Steele), salad dressing (at Pat Buchanon and others); conservative speakers disinvited from speaking on campus (when they get invited at all); all the stones and bricks the lefty radicals like to throw at glass houses; Code Pink disruptions and chanting at planned events – and then the left switches from projectiles to projection and soils its bunched undies when someone shows up at a rally with a legal fiream. Why do they hate the first and second amendments so much?
December 8th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
That’s right Clownie. If it wasn’t for double standards you wouldn’t have any. Do you need to keep a journal for your situational ethics? It must get very confusing.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Clown’s just mad because this guy was supposed to the 4th starter for the Mets next year.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
If anyone threw a tomato at Harry Reid, Pelosi, or local kooks like Tic-Ric, St. Paul Tim, or Miss Pernicious Peeve you left-leaning folks would become so unhinged that your skirts would billow up over the whole state.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Badda, Night, Kerm et al,
‘zactly. Let Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann speak in dissent from Big Government or The One, and the unhinged left links them with the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Tiller murder and the
murder of a census worker. But they whimper like whipped dogs when you dare question their motives for even their most base and repugnant actions, to say nothing of holding them to their own “standards”.Put another way – there is no way for a conservative not to get accused for unknown, alleged hatreds supposedly in his heart, while it is very rare for a PC liberal to be held to account for the hatreds in their actual deeds.

I’ll give Olson credit for at least having the stones to show up in person and do his own dirty work.
The pathetic, cowardly little moonbats that show up here every day to bravely bark their impotent pap from behind the safety of their kevlar keyboards would have e-mailed a picture of a tomato…anonymously of course, and through a maze of proxies.
BTW, Jeremy Olson was a writer for the PiPress…don’t know if he be the same one though.

“Throwing a tomato is the most absurd, inflamatory [sic] thing we can come up with?”
Nice to see a-
holeboy can identify his own species.December 8th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Here’s a good example of liberal courage: http://rawstory.com/2009/12/velvet-revolution-posts-200000-bounty-on-chamber-of-commerce-chief-2/
A leftist group is offering a ‘bounty’ of $200k for any information leading to the conviction of the US Chamber of Commerce, Tom Donohue, for anything. It’s a fishing expedition. Since the “Velvet Revolution” has no idea what information they are after, Donohue’s real crime is to oppose Obama’s policies.
The “Velvet Revolution” refuses to name the donors who came up with the $200k, because they are cowards.
Just imagine the urethral flow if someone got a list of those donors & posted them for public viewing.

“AssClown, you forgot they’re bitter, clinging to their guns and religion. It’s quite pathetic when you can’t even remember your talking points.”
He didn’t forget, we change them every quarter. I hear next week we’re shifting our focus from the TEA party back to the GOP for a while.
December 8th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Terry & Swiftee, I’m starting to realize that your singular strategy is to distract me with grammatcial criticisms and obviously weak arguments (is that what the “straw man” thing is about?). This is the last time I’m going to fall for it.
December 8th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
So, AB, you can’t form a proper sentence or answer a weak argument?
December 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Terry & Swiftee, I’m starting to realize that your singular strategy is to distract me with grammatcial criticisms and obviously weak arguments (is that what the “straw man” thing is about?). This is the last time I’m going to fall for it.
Coherence is a real bitch, isn’t it AB?
December 8th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
“He didn’t forget, we change them every quarter.”
You mean you recycle them. 🙂
December 8th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
AB,
I’ve long since lost the thread of this comment section. But I think I can respond by saying that while conservatives get pilloried by the left/media (pardon the redundancy) for that the left thinks they think, or by what their ideas can by linked to by ten degrees of separation, the left actually acts on their hatred, constantly (if, in this case, thankfully ineptly).
December 8th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Yes, but liberals mean well, so their actions are always forgivable. Or ignorable. Or acceptable.
Look! An abortion clinic bomber!!!
December 8th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
“Terry & Swiftee, I’m starting to realize that your singular strategy is to distract me….”
Nope. Can’t speak for Terry, but I don’t need a “strategy” of any kind to deal with leftist knobs….simple mockery always suffices, and it’s all I ever offer.
“This is the last time I’m going to fall for it.”
Pffft. Bet you $10, dolt.
December 8th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Bozo- “Tomatoes! Pies! Wingnuts…for simply being wingnuts. Angry, bitter fringe-right kooks….. Poor wingnuts” Gee, clown, amongst all that name calling, there`s….. no arguement. Is that the best you`ve got?
December 8th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
I’ll bet ya $10 I can get you to gamble by the end of this thread.
